| | What bungalowstitches likes about this machine This vintage Singer machine from 1950 is my mom's machine that I learned to sew on when I was 12. This machine knows me...it sweated with me when I first learned to make a welt pocket and sew in a front zipper in man-tailored bermuda shorts. It smiled at the row upon row of cotton lace ruffles I made for my college prom gown. It remembers the cute shift dress and matching headscarf I made in high school and all the nice clothes I made when I came home during college breaks while everyone else was lying on the beach. I still expect to see the patterns and mom's scissors when I lift the lid off the orginal stool. When this machine came home to me, I was completely thrilled. I took in the machine for a tune-up and new cord, then took the cabinet into the shop for my OSMG (old sewing machine guy) to put the machine back into the cabinet. I may cover the cracked leather cover on the stool - then again, I may not. What bungalowstitches does not like about this machine Not anything I can think of. It's part of our family. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Membership is free. if you are not a member, please Sign-up now! |

PR seems to have it listed as a free=arm. It's a flat bed. | | * * * | | DeniseD | 1/31/08 | Sounds like a wonderful machine with great memories for you. This is the reason i love vintage machines... | | * * * | | clc74 | 4/13/08 | I am going to get my Grandmother's 15-91 at the end of this month. I plan on taking it to my sewing machine guy too to see if we can bring it back to working condition. It has been sitting for a long time in her basement. Will post more when I can. | | * * * | | LewB | 4/18/08 | My wife picked up a 15-91 in a bent wood box some months ago. I carted it out a few weeks ago and took a good look at it. It also needs a new power cord, but runs well as is. Ours dates to 1934, but looks like it has had only careful use over the years. It's a delight to look at it and think about those days when America was a true industrial power and made things that would last seemingly forever. I plan to use ours to sew heavy canvas covers, although my wife also has a new Bernina.
I think the old machines are just so beautiful. | | * * * |
