| | What lucybear likes about this machine the only thing I like is to learn to thread and easy to use.
this is a "new" janome model and not a discoutinued model. It does have an better warranty, than the other models in ths price range.I onot like anything else about this machine. What lucybear does not like about this machine This machine feels flimsy, moves a lot while sewing on it.
the screw to take off the foot shank is very short an hard to work.I have other Janome=s an I am not impressed with this one at all. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Membership is free. if you are not a member, please Sign-up now! |

Maybe using a piece of non-slip cabinet liner underneath the sewing machine would help keep it from moving. Doesn't it have snap-on/off feet? Why does the foot shank have to be taken off? Very short screws usually have a slot in them for the small screw driver that comes with the sewing machine and using the screw driver may help. I read that you have other Janomes, so I apologize if this has been too basic...just trying to help with the info that's available.

I know other brands like Pfaff and Viking and Bernina all have cheaper machines that are not up to their usual quality but Janome makes so many machines, every time you turn around they are morphing another machine to flood the market with "affordable" machines. Man I'm sick of seeing all the cheap pieces of crap on the market!! Please people if you can't afford more than $150 or so please please look on ebay for a older better built Singer-Nechhi-etc. all metal machine from the 50's, or 60['s. I have one of these made in the very early 70's (also have two electronic machines) and it runs just fantastic!! I learned most of what I know on that machine and got it for about $75.00 from my husband's aunt.
Please don't go for these glitzy cheap things on the market these days. Really, it seems if you don't have at least $300 to spend you can't get something very decent and even at that, you probably really need $500 for what's new out there, and then you STILL have to be careful. Almost any of the electronic Babylocks, Janomes over $350 are pretty good. But I have seen some older mechanicals on ebay that just have me drooling!!! honestly. | | * * * | | bestgrammy | 5/4/08 | Interestingly, the 2040 may be a discontinued model. In googling this model, it was not on Janome's web-site.
I saw it on-line elsewhere and it's a Memory Craft model, originally at $699. The term "Brand New" may refer to it being NIB (new in box). Did you purchase it on-line and did you speak to anyone before the return period was up? You may e-mail Janome directly about your concens, but be sure you've kept your receipt...Janome may want to see a copy of it. | | * * * | | Celeste | 5/5/08 | bestgrammy, this is what frustrates me about Janome. They try to be everything to everybody and come out with so many machines with so many names, you wonder do they really care about how solid their name brand is??? | | * * * | | bestgrammy | 5/8/08 | There are alot of pitiful sms on the market and it makes me sad to see them, too. There are many classic wonderfully made vintage sewing machines that are still in use today and the owners treasure them greatly. I would LOVE to have my grandmother's Singer treadle that I learned to sew on as a child, but my dear aunt has it in her home...as decor...sigh. Even as a child I loved the stitches it made and now as an adult I covet it for the memories and that it was Granma's present from Granpa when they were first married. As a young wife myself in the 60's and onward, I had a couple of all metal sms...that's just how they were then...my first sm was straight stitch only...then zig-zag came...WOW...what technology! ;) Alot of things were made over the years with those sms that still make me smile when I remember them, but the sms themselves...I never really liked...they were heavy and I didn't like the tension dial with the tension wire. A wise woman has said that sms are like ice cream...someone likes rocky road and another likes vanilla...both are right and neither are wrong. When I couldn't move my heavy sm by myself, I bought a little Janome for $99 because that's all I had to spend. That was years ago and I still love that I can lift it with ease, it threads smoothly, sounds nice, and the stitches are pretty to this day. It's had miles of stitching on it and yes, I don't ask it to sew a heavy wool coat or a canvas tent, but it sews very well what I want to do. All of us have varied sewing needs and varied budgets, so I am thankful to Janome for thinking of a customer like me.
