| | What goodground likes about this machine So many great features, plus user friendly. The embroidery stitches make for interesting effects on even plain quilt squares, especially while using variating color thread. Seems to sew quite smoothly. No mechanical or computer problems with it. Really like the free handing and built in stipple stitches.
update to review on 5-14-08 I have not had any problems with the machine itself, just the extend table and sliding, not sure what to do about the extended table, but I don't use it much, so I have really not tried to correct the issue. The sliding is something that bothers me though, the cabinet liner is a wonderful idea. Thank you, I will try to pick some up this weekend. I do think that this machine would be great for beginners, it is virtually a do it by itself machine when it comes to some stitches, and it tells you what feet are needed for what stitches, so if you forget to change feet, it alerts you. Also the machine will not go and just beep if something needs to be tended to ; there are different beeps for different problems. I have found the manuel very well written. I almost forgot to mention, there is a feature that is new to me, it is a button you push that leaves you not having to use your feet, it takes the place of your foot pedal. You can disconnect the foot pedal entirely and only use the button, which runs in 3 speeds. Push the button to start and again to stop the machine. It is a wonderful feature for my husband's grandmother, she is 90 now and cannot use her legs. She used to sew everything, then she couldn't, because she did not know about any button instead of foot pedal, somehow my mother-in-law found this machine at wal-mart and now she can sew again, which she does constantly ! That is how I found out about this lovely little machine. Oh, and those of you who like the crazy quilt look may be interested in the embroidery looking stitches for embellishing, it was one of the features that I found most exciting. My 11 yrs. old son loves this machine and can do very well on it, my husband also likes it, but he prefers his very old models wizard, singer, and kenmore. Yes I do believe that men and boys can sew, my husband can sew circles around me, also my 11 yrs. old son has mastered the lamoyne star block now. Considering my husband is a construction worker, you just never know who you will find sewing, it is nothing to be ashamed of for men or boys. The men my husband works with are trying to get tips from him, they also want to make neat stuff ! oops, I forgot to mention, the button feature for going forward and sewing is accompanied by a reverse button right beside it.And also some boxes of these machines come with bonus feet, mine did, but I have seen some that don't. Hope this gives a little more info, sorry for being so long-winded. Thank you all for the kind reviews and great tips ! What goodground does not like about this machine Very light weight, tends to move about on my table while running a quilt through it. Maybe I need to have a table made for it to drop in. Also, the table extension that comes with it comes off way too easy. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | ButtonFaith | 5/14/08 | I'd like to hear more about this machine. It was one I was looking at for a beginning machine for my daughter. | | * * * | | mufffet | 5/14/08 | Good to hear this machine has worked well for you for 2 years. Thanks for this review. | | * * * | | bestgrammy | 5/15/08 | Yes, very good to hear that this sm has served you well for 2 yrs. Are there any more details that could be shared with us? To help it not move about on the table, has a non-slip cabinet liner been tried? | | * * * | | SewBrazilian | 5/15/08 | I also have had this machine for over 3 years now. I love it! Mine doesn't move at all. I have never had this trouble. I have it sat on a WallMart sewing cabinet. I have heard you can put one of those non slip rubber under it to stop it from moving. I love the decorative stitches too. I recently made a heirloom gift bag to put some kitchen towels I made for my mother in law for mother's day. It looked great and she loved it. I have made quilts and even purses with it. I sew a lot of knits and the overlock stitch it wonderful!!!! You can see the things I have sewn with it on my album:

The machine has impressed me with all of its stitches and options; very like a Babylock Crafter's Choice that I own. I expect it would be a great-low cost machine for beginner's to get there feet wet on. I have seen it currently being sold for $139 at Ken's. Thanks again for the additional info! | | * * * |
