| | What MSMICA likes about this machine After much research and months of looking, I finally decided on this Brother machine. I'd read all the reviews on PR, as well as asking my local dealer what they thought. The overall impression was that for the price and it being a 'mass market' machine, it was basically a good choice.
I have had it for a little more than a month and have sewn several garments on it.
While I know it’s not the machine that I will be handing down to my nieces in twenty years, I felt it fully met my current needs... sort of a ‘Mr. Right Now’ version of a sew machine. What MSMICA does not like about this machine WELL..... I'm sure I'll have to come back and temper this post later... AFTER I've calmed down... But, I turned on my machine today (6/15) and was met with an error message... F4, to be specific. Turns out that this error is an internal malfunction and the machine will have to be taken for service... It's little more than a month old! I have made maybe 5-6 very basic garments using it. I'm flabbergasted right now. And I can hear all the reviewers who have also had issues with this machine saying... “told'ya!”
I will reserve my final judgment for later after I deal with the Brother service center.

Well, after calling Brother and being told that an 'F4' error was "...unserviceable.... you should return it, if you can..." my decision was made for me. So I sent the machine back to the store this past Wednesday.
Today I came home with a shiny new Emerald 183 by Husqvarna Viking. It was considerably more expensive, but from what I have been finding out, for commercial machines made these days, you get what you pay for.
Once I get the new machine up and running for a while, I will revisit the review board. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Membership is free. if you are not a member, please Sign-up now! |

| Reader Comments | | Mufffet | 6/15/08 | I hope all goes well and you get the machine back in good working order and can enjoy it for a good length of time. Sorry you had this happen. | | * * * | | melly298 | 6/15/08 | MsMica, I had this error message before on my EX660 that I bought at Costco, nearly the same model as yours. I had to clean it and rethread a bobbin and that worked. I hope yours gets fixed without paying much. :) | | * * * |
