| | What abfabdude likes about this machine After years with a Mechanical Necchi 6030 Omega at home.(which I still love) I wanted something that would do a variety of stitches and most importantly 1-step button holes. This machine seems to be adequate to the task thus far. It comes with a lot of feet! The Manual is very good, I was suprised at how detailed it is. I like the feel of the machine, I think it might be a bit heavy to lug to classes though. I will update this review as I use the machine more. What abfabdude does not like about this machine twin needle sewing results are less than satisfactory(I may try some tear off stabilizer) some of the stitch patterns don't look like the line drawings. (this could be a confluence of presser foot pressure and thread tension...will continue to experiment)
The Reverse button has a learning curve all it's own.
The accessory tray is small (I got a plastic box with dividers for my feet)
The Price I paid was a good one for this machine, I don't think I would have paid 600 for this.

| Reader Comments | | Mufffet | 7/3/08 | Did you download the free workbook from the Singer Resources site? It looks very good!
It all starts with wanting that auto button hole. I started that way and ended up buying several sewing machines and falling back in love with the machines - all of them. ;) I have seen the stitches this line of Singers makes and they look so nice. Have fun with your new machine! | | * * * | | abfabdude | 7/3/08 | Thank you for the information concerning the workbook.... | | * * * | | melly298 | 7/3/08 | I bought this machine too, abfab, when it was available at Costco online. After about 3 months the uptake lever started banging against the internal metal frame. I tried to get a replacement, but the vendor was no longer selling them to Costco. I liked the machine and hope yours does great. | | * * * | | narcissaqtpie | 7/4/08 | I recently purchased a "factory serviced" (yes!) model. I've had it only a few weeks, but I am optimistic and looking at I love about it - a lot of things.
you are right about the amount of very nice features and accessories! I also agree about the manual. I think Singer makes great/worthy machines for those who cant afford those "super" brands. I will post my own review in a few months. | | * * * | | Celeste | 7/6/08 | On the reverse button: It is probably like the one on my Babylock. If it is, you have to hold it down the entire time you want it to stitch in reverse. As soon as you let it go, it will stitch forward. My Babylock is from the late 90's so can't speak for the new ones but other people have struggled with their reverse buttons not knowing if they let off pressure it would go forward again.... | | * * * | | bestgrammy | 7/7/08 | Enjoyed reading your review...good details. Looking forward to anything more that you may add in the future. Also, all the sms I've ever used return to forward stitching when the reverse lever is released, so one that "stays" in reverse would be a learning curve for me! | | * * * |
