What knanna likes about this machine
Ellageo BLL

This is the finest sewing machine I have owned, thus far. I love the automatic needle threader. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so there is no more fussing with the thread and the eye of the needle. The tension is set automatically. It has a good number and variety of utility stitches plus heirloom and quilting stitches, decorative stitches, quite a few one-step buttonhole choices, and several alphabets to choose from. The basting stitch is 20 mm long, makes gathering fabric a breeze! I can sew with or without the foot pedal, needle up/down setting, 5 LED lights for the workarea, stitch memory pockets, and the features just go on and on.

This is a computerized baby, with on screen help, large color LCD screen, and very easy to use. Preferences can be memorized by the machine even after it is turned off. Included lots of feet, extra needles, instruction manual, knee lifter, 3 hoops 6x10, 5x7, 4x4; extra bobbins, tools, 2 storage compartments plus a storage compartment in the included hard shell carrying case. I'm sure I'm not mentioning everything it included, but it included everything needed (except an embroidery needle of all things).

I've been picking up some optional feet as the weeks go on. So far, I have found that they are quite affordable. The most expensive items to buy are additional embroidery designs, poly embroidery thread (because you need so many colors to stitch designs unlike garment sewing), and various types of stabilizers because I had none. I think I'm set now for quite awhile.

The embroidery machine is not complicated, although I have to admit I didn't ME anything on it until after I had my first lesson. I had to wait 2 weeks for my first lesson and I'm glad I waited because I surely did not have the confidence to embroider anything when I first brought it home. I had no idea where to start or what I had to do, even though I read the manual through. I only needed 2 lessons to feel comfortable with the ME. I'm not a pro at embroidery, but I've stitched up a few items I can be proud of. My purchase included free lifetime lessons at my dealer's.

This machine sews like a dream. I traded a BL Decorator's Choice in for this, and got full trade in. I owned the Decorator's Choice less than a year. I thought the machines would be comparable in the sewing category, but I must admit, I'm much happier with this machine than the Decorator. When I stitched out some sample decorative stitches I was quite impressed with the difference in the stitches between the two machines. The Ellageo BLL being far superior.

I am very happy with it and have been sewing almost every day since I brought it home. I'm glad I have a great local dealer that turned me on to the Babylock line of machines.

What knanna does not like about this machine
No unpleasant surprises. The biggest drawback is that it is not the type of machine you would carry to a class. It is quite bulky, not a lightweight. So, I'll be looking for another sewing machine for classes.

FlyGuy27/19/08Great review, Don't you just love Baby Lock? they seem to make some really great machines. I love my machine and will be a baby lock person from now on.

Celeste7/19/08I have an older Bernina that has a 20 mm long basting stitch. These pull out sometimes a little too easily; you may find you have to put in a few shorter stitches every so often to "anchor" the basting stitches so they don't pull out unexpectedly.

granny geek7/20/08I love this machine. I have had the Ellagio for 5 years now and, although I bought the Ellegante 3 years ago, I still use the Ellageo for basic sewing and quilting. The Embroidery is every bit as good or better on my Ellegeo than on the Ellegante, but the latter does have more features and a larger embroidery hoop that I like very much. All the decorative and quilting stitches are identicle on the two machines but I find that my Ellegeo seems less tempermental and the stitches seem evener. The bobbin is different and doesnt hold as much thread as the Ellegante. The newer Ellagios have USB ports which mine does not. Stlll...I would sooner trade in the Ellegante than the Ellagio if I choose to go with the new Ellisimo which comes out this fall. (BL is all hush hush about this new machine...but someone here on PR (flyboy, are you listening?) may give us an early reiview of BP new top of the line machine)
