What Cleopatre likes about this machine
It is a lot of machine for the price! My favorite feature is the integrated dual feed foot or PDQ (Precision Dual Feed Quilting); it feeds the fabrics top to bottom at the same rate. It includes 14 feet 9 specialty feet including the 1/4-inch seam foot and a spring darning foot which come in handy for piecing and free motion, respectively. There are 363 beautiful built-in stitches including 2 alphabets, decorative stitches and satin stitches, some of which can be mirrored, and the retractable stitch chart makes it easy to recall them. It has 8 memory slots to recall your favorite stitch combos or stitches you use often for a project. It comes with a huge transparent extension table that allows to access the front-loading bobbin without taking off your project, a great plus. There is a separate motor to wind your bobbins so you don't have to unthread the needle to wind one up. It comes with a knee lift and a straight stitch needle plate which I haven't tried yet, but the machine has a sensor that will warn me if I try to zigzag.

I was able to sew through 4 layers of denim without a hitch; there is a spring loaded button on the presser foot to level it to go over uneven areas, e.g. across a thick seam. I was also able to quilt through 4 layers of cotton batting without a problem using the PDQ. All the stitches I have tried thus far are gorgeous and so are the buttonholes; up to 8mm width and 5mm length depending on which one with 81 needle positions and there is even a feature to stretch some of the decorative stitches AND there is plenty of light from the needle and across the 8 5/8" harp.

The issues people were concerned about with the Quest have been fixed: 1. The one most asked about is the adjustment made at the end of stitching. It was slowed down and the extra stitches taken at the end were adjusted. 2. You no longer will have to disconnect the foot control to use the START/STOP button (I love that) 3. The stitch length manual settings for some stitches can be shortened to 0. 4. Straight stitches can be programmed into the machine' memory and will sew continuously with no auto-lock stitches. 5. You can start the reverse stitch from the stop position.

I think I got it all. I haven't had it for very long and will probably discover many other goodies. I'll update as time permits.

What Cleopatre does not like about this machine
So far nothing.

Cleopatre 5/24/09oops, I meant 15 feet. It comes standard with 15 feet not 14. Also it should read 15 feet PLUS 9 specialty feet. For some reason the plus sign didn't show up. Sorry :)

Joanne77 5/25/09This is, without a doubt, one of the best and most informative machine review I have ever read on PR! Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed, and helpful, review. It almost makes me want to trade in my Esante for this one!

water2wine 5/25/09Great Review! I am so glad you are loving it. I already love it and your review just reminded me of more reasons to love the Quest Plus. And I am excited to hear you think it is great for quilting since you are a quilter! I look forward to hearing more about your quilting on this machine. Thanks for the great review!

sewsanna 7/16/09Cleopatre, thank you for your coverage of this machine, which I am seriously considering. Have you used this machine for projects other than quilting? I am interested in knowing how this machine would handle knit fabric. Would it work well for knit sewing until I am able to afford a serger? (I know that a serger would work differently than a machine.) I assume it handles different thicknesses of fabric well since it is essentially built for quilting. Any other bit of info you might have after using it since May would be appreciated. Thanks again for taking your time to write an informataive review.

Corinne 8/21/09Thanks for the review, I have been watching for this machine to be "tweaked" because it is a fantastic bang for your buck if it works well!
