| | What annenet likes about this machine I've had this machine since I bought it as a demo in 1992 and it is one solid workhorse! It's also the one that sold me on Bernina!
It's the Swiss Anniversary edition and being of Swiss heritage I really love the way it looks. It alway performs flawlessly, easily takes any fabric I put in it (leather, chiffon, you name it) and the buttonholes, all though not one step, are absolutely perfect. It'll even go through multi layers of denim. It has 16 stitches and for a long time that was all I needed. All it's ever needed is maintance.
It's also one of the Bernina all metal machines so that makes it very sturdy and stable. It does not jump around at all!
I see these machines pop up on Ebay at times referencing them as school machines and I can see why. It would be perfect for a beginner. What annenet does not like about this machine I'm spoiled but the needle up/down on my other machines as well as the knee lift, but other that that I can't say anything else. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | smockeymama | 6/2/09 | I have one that looks almost identical to this! Mine is the Designer 1000 (circa 1991). Like you , I enjoy the needle up/down & other electronic features on my Bernina 1090 & Kenmore 19606, but my basic mechanical Bernina 1000 is a reliable workhorse & I would not take anything for it. | | * * * |
