What Carolyn C likes about this machine
This is my third serger, and I'm very happy with it. My first serger was a White, and though it sewed well, I got tired of having to open it up and use screwdrivers to adjust the stitch width and the differential feed. I then traded it in for a gently used Bernette that could also convert to a 2-thread rolled hem. The dealer told me I would love it, but it turns out he was a better technician than matchmaker. So, within a few days I traded that machine for my Funlock 004D, which I absolutely love. It can be used to apply elastic, make ruffles, make a 3-thread rolled hem, sew knits and swimwear (of course), and so forth. I love the turn-of-the-dial stitch adjustment, differential feed, and knife adjustment. It really is just a basic machine that sews extremely well and is quite sturdy. I've loaned it to friends without fear that it could be damaged.
I've thought about getting a new serger with all the do-dads and automatic threading, but this little machine is a workhorse. Why spend the money to upgrade when I'm so happy with my Funlock?

What Carolyn C does not like about this machine
Hmmm, I'm thinking....

Darla in PA 6/7/09You will love this machine. My first serger was a Funlock 004 and it was truly a workhorse. Very easy to use and very easy to thread.

simbar 8/23/09hi, i also have a funlock that is quite a few years old. recently i started looking at the newer sergers, but my old funlock actually sews a nicer stitch than the newer models. i don't have any speciality feet and don't even know if they are available. i actually wonder if juki feet will fit. the machines look identical. does anyone know and if so where to get the feet?

Jillybook 9/26/09A friend of my MIL's gave me this machine as a gift. She bought it new in the 80's and never even used it!! I had to order a book for it, which took forever, but then I finally got it serviced and it seems to be working ok... However, I never can figure out the right tension. It sometimes has a very loose seam that looks messy! No matter what tension I use, it doesn't really look pretty. I am considering biting the bullet and getting something brand new...
