What bocablues likes about this machine
I was about to start sewing classes, so I looked at Consumer Reports May 09 issue and saw that the Brother Project Runway was recommended. I was skeptical given it was named after the TV showl, but I love the machine! When my classmates in beginning apparel sewing were struggling to thread or wind a bobbin, I could complete those tasks easily. The same with choosing stitches - just push a button. Changing presser feet is a breeze. So far I haven't run into anything that is difficult to do with this machine, which is important when you're a beginner because the machine itself can be a source of frustration.

What bocablues does not like about this machine
There's only one thing I don't like about the machine which is if the needle isn't making contact with fabric for just 1-2 stitches (such as when you get to the end of a dart) the thread jams and you have to open the bobbin case and clip the thread. It hasn't been a major problem as I now just put a sheet of paper at the end of dart sew the needle has something to thread through.

sambient 6/27/09Ooh, that's a creative solution regarding the thread jamming! Glad to see your review because I'm probably about to pull the trigger on the purchase of one of these online. May I ask where you got your superb price? It's $200 less than the best I've found. And the buttonholes? How are they? I'm quite excited to see a review for this machine, and glad to learn you enjoy it.
