What JJamiah likes about this machine
I love this machine, it is my first sewing machine and yet I have used Vikings and Berninas in class I love my Brother. This machine is affordable, yet the features and quality is comparable to it's more expensive peers. I sew about 3-4 times a week. I take this to class to use. I have made, cloth bags, skirts, dresses, shorts, pillows, and more. I have order additional accessories to make this my work horse. Some weeks I sew non-stop, and some weeks I sew only once. I love the quiet ability to sew at night without waking the family. It does have an adjustable needle and many stitches. I haven't had any problems with the one step button hole maker, nor the button foot to sew on the buttons on the fabric. It looks like I have been sewing for years. My teacher who owns the higher end machine complimented my machine, I am a intermediate sewer. She says that this machine has a lot of neat features and the quality is comparable. Yet....

What JJamiah does not like about this machine
I have used the Vikings and Bernina and while the ability to guide these with just a finger sometimes I find myself struggling to guide the fabric on this machine, rarely though. Not always. My brother sometimes also gets hungry with corners, don't know if it is just my machine, but I haven't encountered this with the others so I figured the feed dog plates were too big on mine.

sambient 7/2/09Good info on the buttonholes. That seems to be what we are inclined to ask about most here. Glad you're enjoying it for the money. It sounds like a less expensive machine that is minimal on giving the user a sense of having compromised.

Mufffet 7/2/09Thanks for a thorough review! The guiding of the fabric thing isn't all that great on my Viking if you are working with linen or some slippery fabric, and on Janomes it is ridiculous because they are so slippery themselves! So I guess it's a common enough thing. One trick I learned fomr some book I have is to put a thread through corners before you sew, and then when you get to the corner, hold the thread ends to keep it from going down the machine. Then pull that thread out when you are done! :)
