What PattiAnnSG likes about this machine
I do not know why all the features appeared, this is a mechanical sewing machine with only a few bells and no whistles.

It has a free arm, needle position adjustment and presser foot pressure adjustment.

I had to find out why sewing machines sold in discount stores get so many negative comments.

I have owned four, and still have two TOL machines. My husband is still pondering my decision.

The machine is model 1507 that I found marked down 10% at Meijer and with a store saving coupon I paid $20.00 less than the shelf price.

The 1507 sews a evenly balanced stitch: straight or zig-zag. Sews on buttons and makes a great buttonhole.

There is a cover plate for free-motion sewing, but the machine does will with the stitch length set at zero.

In addition to the all purpose foot, additional presser feet include a four-step buttonhole, zipper and button sewing foot.

There isn't a darning foot, but the one from my Babylock worked just fine.

Every feature I tried, I showed to my husband like it was my first sewing machine....and I am a Bernina lover!

What PattiAnnSG does not like about this machine
Nothing. This is a great starter machine or machine for someone who does occasional sewing.

I would like to try the other brands in the discount stores, but my stimulus package is already spoken for!

sambient 7/9/09How cool are you, satisfying this curiousity? Good to have a recommendation from someone who has experienced a variety of machines.

Sewnknit 7/10/09Fun review! I myself have been curious about the machines from discount stores. Thanks for sharing.

Mufffet 7/10/09I too have a weakness for machines at the downward side of the sewing budget. I have a couple of bottom line machines which are very good for what they do. Thanks for this review!

Charrlie 7/10/09I might have to take a look at this, as I am a Bernina fan as well.

Beth Pierce 7/10/09This is interesting. I thought all low end Singers were junk, after and experience I had, but this review now has me thinking otherwise. Thank you!

smockeymama 7/10/09Could be a great extra machine for a second home or to take on a trip. Some complaints I have heard on these big box store machines is that they don't hold up over time. But if you aren't using this as your main machine, and since you are an experienced sewer & know how to take proper care of it, who knows--it may last many years!!!

Kanjelab 7/10/09One of my students came to class with a sewing machine she had purchased for a retreat she went on about a month before the class. The machine lasted for the 2 day retreat and kind of died by the middle of the class. I think she only paid about $50 for it, so I guess sometimes those low priced machines can be kind of like disposable cameras. But I must confess, every time I walk past those inexpensive machines at Walmart, I think "hmmmm that would be fun to check those out!" But so far I've been a good girl! Thanks Patti for walking on the wild side!

PattiAnnSG 7/11/09Sockeymama - my thoughts exactly - some people can break an anvil, or so I have heard!
