| | What julialee23 likes about this machine I am just pulling this machine out of mothballs after a few years of
"abandonment". I had half a mind to upgrade to the latest, greatest but after taking a look at what has gone on out there over the past few years, I am less than impressed and feel so lucky to have bought this machine when I did. It has a solid feel, lots of metal as opposed to the new machines that have plastic outer shells. After 16 years, it still sews perfectly despite virtually no maintenance (I have always been fastidious about cleaning and oiling the bobbin mechanism). The Pfaff Creative vision I test drove today seemed herky jerky, and maybe I am old school but I hate the drop in bobbin!
In addition to the outstanding basic stitches, there is a handful of quaint decorative stitches which should satisfy those of you looking to embellish doll clothing, or make custom labels, or add sweet additions to patchwork quilting. The CD unit can further extend your creative spirit, and despite the fact that there are pretty amazing embroidery machines out there, those of us who only decorate our projects very infrequently and who need a solid performing machine with lots of basic stitch choices will be impressed with the craftsmanship of this German Designed and German MADE machine.
There is plenty of information about the particulars of the 1475 CD machine in other reviews. I write this primarily to encourage those of you looking for a "new" machine that has quality standard sewing (as opposed to the fancer embroidery) stitches, to investigate this machine. What julialee23 does not like about this machine The buttonhole stitch leaves a little to be desired. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | sew2006 | 7/26/09 | Welcome to PR! I have the 1472 model with less stitches but the machine is great for sewing. Will sew silk and denim all without a strugle and no bouncing on the table. | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 7/26/09 | I had the 7550 and just loved it. After trying out many of the newer models, there was no comparison. The older models made in Germany are fantastic. I ended up selling it. It sewed beatiful and was very smooth, but I found after sewing on it for a while, it was get very hot and the lightiing was terrible. Overall, I found it to be one of the best machines made. | | * * * | | julialee23 | 7/26/09 | Lil Flo, if you sold your 7550, I am curious what you replaced it with? I am looking for a backup machine and have begun what will likely be a pretty thorough search. I have heard good things about the 7550 as well...again,last of a breed actually manufactured in Germany.
| | * * * | | Wendy J | 7/26/09 | I have the 1473CD and also have loved it. It was my primary machine for about 20 years and always served me well. I agree the buttonhole was never great, but I loved everything else about the machine. I did purchase another machine just over a year ago and also love it. I got a Bernina Aurora 430, but did also keep my Pfaff. Just could't part with it. I absolutely love using my Bernina, but will always keep the pfaff. I do use the pfaff when sewing knits, as you cannot beat the IDT, but I ususally sew with wovens. You are correct in that it is a great machine and the 1475 even has more than my 1473 has. Enjoy it! Wendy | | * * * | | Joanne77 | 7/26/09 | I do not waste much time on regrets because what's done is done, but I do regret selling my 1475CD. Call it guilt. I bought my first Babylock Combo machine in 2000, after I was retired, and felt that I must sell the 1475CD to help offset that cost. Biggest sewing machine mistake I ever made! Mine had buttonhole issue too but there was a way to make them one by one, instead of repeating, that produced very acceptable ones. Wonderful machine. One of the best Pfaff's ever produced in my opinion (which is not humble!) Keep yours, enjoy it, and continue to love it! | | * * * | | Mufffet | 7/27/09 | Yes, keep the older machine for sure! | | * * * | | Nancy Rhodes | 7/28/09 | Interesting discussion.. when I was TOL machine shopping in 1991 maybe end of '90 hard to remember I was torn between the bernina and the pfaff.. It was pretty much a coin toss and the 'nina won. I still use my 1230 as my daily stitcher... nice to know with the advantage of hindsight that either would have been a good choice. Thanks for sharing!
| | * * * | | Lil Flo | 7/31/09 | julalee23, I ended up with the Juki TL 98Q and the Janome Platinum 760 for decorative stitches. I couldn't be more happier. You didn't say what type of sewing you do, but I mostly do quilts. The straight stitch is beautiful on both of these. I haven't used the Janome a whole lot. My Juki is my baby. VERY smooth, only straight stitch, but does it VERY well. If you want a back up Pfaff, I did have a Pfaff 1530 and loved it. I sold it and could kick myself. It was made in Germany. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 1500 series. BUT, not all of them have the IDT, if you want that. I have heard nothing but good things about this machine. I wouldn't trade my JUKI for any of the TOL Pfaff, Viking or Berninas. It is incredible. Large sewing area, scissor cutter, Needle UP/Down. No problems what so ever. The bobbin is located in a weird place, just takes a bit of getting used to. Hope this helps. Good luck with your search for your perfect machine. I have to admit, I went through seven different machines before finding my perfect machine. I bought everything but Bernina. I did try it in the store, but didn't want to shell out the money for what you got. I guess I just wasn't impressed with Bernina. But that's just me. Good luck with your search. Hope this helps. | | * * * |
