| | What vwgrant likes about this machine Since blind hemmer isn't a category, I classified it as a 'sewing machine'. Hopefully, it'll appear under Tacony.
While it's a "single function" machine, what it does, it does very well. I do alterations and marching band season is upon us, so this will help make hemming go ever so much faster.
Threading is easier with a little needle threader bent to a right angle--a cheapie JoAnn's notion with a little fine wire and plastic magnifying glass combination. I've been using serger thread, since I have lots and it is lightweight. I did have to adjust the thread path holey-thingie (I know, a very technical sewing term) so the thread didn't accidently wrap around the thread path holey-thingie --a minor adjustment using a screwdriver to twist that part so the thread came through it straight.
A helpful hint: run up some samples of different weight fabric and record the settings (and the samples). The machine came with a sample under it's foot with a "4" setting for the 'bite' taken--the standard starched cotton fabric that shows off a machine's stitches the best. I tried a lightweight cotton and couldn't catch the threads at that setting and went up to a 6-7 range before it started looking right. Likewise, a twill I thought was the same weight as the sample, didn't work until "5". I still need to find some knits to try them out. I did read somewhere that a person using slinky was able to achieve a great hem using a blindstitch machine. THAT I want to see! What vwgrant does not like about this machine It was a little disappointing to not be able to find a machine to look at in person.
Minor items--I ordered it online from Allbrand's and it didn't come with an instruction manual. Don't know if that was a TACSEW omission or Allbrand's but another instruction manual is being sent. The internet is a handy research tool as I was able to download an owner's manual from someone who owned a ReliableMSK-588 Blindhemmer and figure out how to set the TACSEW up and practice without too much difficulty.
Mine doesn't appear to have a finger guard. Getting a clunk to my left fingers has taught me to keep the Left hand BEHIND the sewing surface, instead of parallel to it.

Your right about finger position. Thankfully I figured that out pretty fast. just hemmed a pleated skirt in about 60 seconds! | | * * * |
