| | What Midas likes about this machine I got my Janome 11000 about a year ago and I do like it as a sewing machine. I embroider too , and I have a Brother machine also.
The sewing part of the 11000 is really nice and smooth and does a ton of stuff. There are lots of extra feet to use and it threads up very nicely. It has an auto needle threader, which is very helpful. I haven't found the moving screen to be terribly useful.
The stitching is flawless.
The machine is well built and will last forever.
The embroidered designs look very nice.
What Midas does not like about this machine This machine is very heavy . It is very expensive.
The book that comes with the machine is not very complete or detailed. There is a CD that is more helpful tho. I prefer to follow a book at the beginning and this was just not complete enough.
The embroidery files that you bring to the machine has a quirky filing system.
The embroidery screeen on the Brother shows you exactly what you are embroidering at every color. Janome only tells you what color you are on (ie...color 2, 3, etc...)
If you want to embroider alot you need to get software such as Embird, to give you much more editing capabilities.
If you are thinking of buying this machine, I would try to get a "trial" period to try it first.

| Reader Comments | | Sweetpt | 9/1/09 | I'm looking at this machine too, and the comments were specific to my needs. The screen, the quality of stitching, how easy is it to edit designs once I get into that phase - or I'd stick with a preprogrammed quilting machine. Price is giving me real pause. Thank you. | | * * * | | downs | 9/1/09 | I read your review. You wrote that you paid $7. I believe you made a mistake as you said it was an expensive machine. I am glad I read your review as I was thinking of buying it. | | * * * | | sew2006 | 9/1/09 | Actually, if you are refering to the fact that Brother machines show you each color block so that it's easy to see if you should have green on as your next color, the Janome machine can show you that. When you are on the screen ready to embroider there is an icon on to the right of the picture that shows the design. When you tough it, it will show you color #1, green and the section it will embroider in that color. I don't have the 11000 in front of me right now so I can't be more specific. In regards to the way the 11000 organizes embroidery designs on a card, you place the card in the machine, turn on and it formats it. The machine creates a EMBF file folder, and inside of that there is another folder EMB. The advantage of this format is that you can place your own folders on the card. Each folder can hold apr 100 designs and you can give them names depending on what design collection the designs are from to make it easier to find. With this method you don't have to sort 300 designs, they can be organized into individual file folders. This also speeds up the loading of the desings. | | * * * | | Sewwolf | 9/3/09 | I think and you said yourself you didn't feel the instructions were good, that some of the things you you don't like about this machine are that you might not know the best way to utilize the features on it and maybe some instruction at the dealer's might have been benefitual to you. I have a Janome 10001 and have heard high praises for this machine. Of course the machine is going to be heavy it's an embroidery machine. I'm surprised you dealer didn't throw in the customizer software as it would have given you the editing you say you needed. But I know that machine has good editing right on the machine. | | * * * | | Claire e. | 9/4/09 | I'm always interested in learning about the various embroidery machines out there, and I'm a Janome sewer. Thanks for the review! | | * * * | | Asknyla | 10/24/09 | I have a Janome 11000, and like you I thought instructional manual was poorly written. I still experience some trouble bringing designs into the machine. I also have the digitalizer software. i'm going to have to take a class on it. Thanks for your review. | | * * * |
