| | What sewingcybermom likes about this machine Let me just say that my 15-91 has just been recovered from my moms house, way back in the attic of the garage. No table anymore....someone probably took the thing. Anyway, hubby made a nice base for it to sit in, I cleaned it up and man.....it sews like a dream! I remember my mom making my first day of school dress on it..black and white checks with a red top. I have a Bernina 950, a Janome 6600P, and sewing is my business. I was desperately looking for a machine that would go through anything, and short of buying a 3-4000.00 walking foot machine, I decided to go on a hunt, 800 miles away in my moms house. I just knew it was there, so I took off with great hope. It was a glorius moment when I found that little black gem, although bittersweet since my mom passed not long ago. As I sat in the hot attic of the garage, I cried, remembering her sitting at the machine, and knowing that she is probably thrilled that I have found it and will now share her love of sewing on it. Gone are the days of great machines, they have given way to the plastic counterparts of today. Keep em, I say...keep em all. Including my Berninas and my Janome...this Singer is center stage in my sewing studio today and that's where it's staying! | sew obsessed | 9/18/09 | What a great story! I love these old machines. They are a tank! I believe your one step buttonhole is a seperarte attachment that sits in a green plastic box with buttonhole cams:-) It makes fabulous buttonholes, as several PR members have noted in their reviews, especially on heavy fabric. Enjoy your special find. |

| Nancy Rhodes | 9/18/09 | That's a sweet ending ... a new beginning for a good machine and what a strong connection / path to 'visit' with your Mom. I bet those 800 miles back was a short trip with that Singer on Board!

| Donna H | 9/18/09 | Thanks for your story and review. I feel the same way about these old Singers as you do. Let 'em keep their plastic machines. |

| annenet | 9/18/09 | What a great story! Isn't in nice to be a second generation owner? What other kind of machine can last that long?? |

| Mufffet | 9/18/09 | What a nice review. Bless your heart. I was just thinking of my Mom because tomorrow is the anniversary of her passing. I don't have her Singer. It is gone. I am glad you have your Singer and are loving it. |

| catsmeow | 9/18/09 | Thank you for a lovely story! The prettiest dresses I ever wore were the ones my mother made for me on her black Necchi BU. Alas, her machine is beyond repair, but I remember her sewing away at it all those years ago. She made everything with it! |

| nfield | 9/19/09 | Thank you for sharing your memories. Made me realize that everyday is precious that we have with our loved ones. I agree about the vintage singers. I have 10 different ones and counting. Love sewing on them, better than the new plastic models. The buttonholer for the old singers is the best. I have my 201 set up just for button holes. |

| Lil Flo | 9/19/09 | These machine reviews are popping up quite often lately and has made me want one. I have a question for anyone who would know the answer. Alot of these reviews are based on garmet sewing, what about quilting? Can free-motion quilting be done on one of these? I am just learning and would like to know if this machine would be good for this task. Thanks |

| emmyhonan | 9/19/09 | I do have my mother's featherweight and her button box which is a comfort. I bought a 15-91 about two years ago, and I love it. It sews a perfect stitch on all types of fabric without any adjustments. |

| RadarRadiance | 9/20/09 | Enjoyed your review and also love this machine! I had to downsize and chose to keep this one instead of my 201 and am glad to hear how well others like it too. I have mine in a bent wood case and haven't really used it other than it sitting smiling at me looking pretty as can be. Mine was my mom's too so I can really relate! I'm so glad you found her. |

| Celeste | 9/21/09 | I bought an old Singer 501 Rocketeer last year. As I pondered over the manual that came with the machine it dawned on me the exceptional sewing abilities women brought to the machines back then. Now it's sad that everyone wants an easy quick fix and expects the machine to do it all. The more that machines do, the less skill people are required to have and this exceptional sewing skill and technique is dying out.... |

| Beth Jacobson | 9/21/09 | I have this machine too and youur review validates what I think of it too. It has the most even stitches and I love to machine quilt my garment pieces with Beautiful rayon variegated threads. The stitches are accurate as set on the machine compared to the tiny and very irregular stitch lengths the electronic machines make. I love it. Maintainence is oil, grease and change needles!! |

| johnr55 | 9/27/09 | These older machines have something none of the ones have: personality. I'd like to see a followup review from you describing what this model does and what you are using it for. So sad Singer has ruined their rep with these Asian machines. |

| Lil Flo | 10/7/09 | I just went all over town trying to find one of these. Just when I was about to give up, I went to an old flea market with just a few vendors left. There she was, my new baby. I am bringing her to be rewired and cleaned in the morning. I am so excited. She's in great shape too. The jappaning is flawless. She looks very nice. I can't wait to get her up and rolling. The sad thing is I don't even know how to thread her. There was no instrucitons or attachments. The good thing is my local sm guy has all the attachments and instruction books. So we'll just wait and see. I paid $10 for her, which I think is a steal. |

| johnr55 | 10/7/09 | A special machine becomes more special when it has personal provenance. I still have the Bernina my mother passed on when she died and I'll never get rid of it. As for your machine, you illustrate just how far down Singer has gone. What would Mr. Singer think? |
