No attachments or manual with it. Didn't sew when I got it. I cleaned it, oiled it and adjusted the belt ( which is easy to do on an old machine) and put in a new light bulb. It is not a machine with any beauty to it, but boy can it do what it was designed to do.
I made a quilt out of old denim jeans and I must say the stitches are beautiful. Even on both sides. It breezed through the denim and the batting without a hitch. As an experiment I tried sewing though various layers of heavy denim. The machine made it through 10 layers with the same even stitching and no hesitation. It couldn't do the 11th layer. Its not often, if ever, that I need to go through 11 layers of denim.
I tried several layers of soft leather, using a Schemdts leather needle and again perfect stitches. Switched needles, thread and tried it on silk. Had to adjust the tension for the silk thread but again perfect stitches. The machine does not purr, it just does what its supposed to do with no hesitation.
The stitch length adjustment is the type that you set the length and than tighten the screw so that you always have the same length and there is no slippage. When you push the lever up for reverse you have the same length stitch.
It is all metal and weighs a ton but it is easy to clean and oil. I highly recommend this machine, its a real workhorse and for general sewing its a dream.
What zanylady does not like about this machine Nothing really, It only sews forward and back but if I need to zigzag I can use a different machine. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | dbsewer | 10/1/09 | Excellent deal on what sounds like a real workhorse. Thanks for a nice review. | | * * * | | Mufffet | 10/1/09 | Great to read that you have saved another machine from the scrap heap! Sounds like you will more than recoup your efforts! | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 10/1/09 | There have been more and more reviews on older machines. Seems the way to go. Sounds like a great sm. | | * * * | | zanylady | 10/3/09 | Older machines generally do what they are supposed to do and do it very well. They are easy to maintain and the average sewer can maintain and often fix the machine when it begins to falter. Many of the older machines have manuals that tell the owner how to fix simple problems and usually whats wrong is fairly simple to fix.
They have already outlasted many new macxhines and will continue to outlast them. | | * * * |
