| | What mimi007 likes about this machine Sorry buy I had to put this under Juki since the Yamata or Feiyue Company name wasn't on the drop down list.
This is my first industrial machine, after runing through 3 singers (2 old and one new) I knew that my purposes did not suit household machines. I searched the internet for weeks comparing and pricing and found this one for $400 which includes everything, table, legs, motor and needles. I paid more for mine because I live in Trinidad and Tobago and bought mine from a dealer so my price of $792 includes shipping, but judging from previous quotes its about $400
Unlike the yamata fy8500, the three singer machines( the Inspiration 4220, 966 and the other number I can't remember right now) could not handle layers of light fabric or even sewing on velcro, if the needle didn't break it would stop sewing midway
The yamata/feiyue fy8500 is a great price, it sews really quickly, its easy to use and troubleshoot, it also sews very quietly with the clutch motor, so much so it actually sounds more like a servo motor after a few minutes of idling.
It's a straight stitch machine that does 5500spm and is supposed to be for light to medium materials which is just great for me since I sew on a lot of light materials like satin and stretch sequin. So far I've made three pouches and a heavy stretch cotton skirt! It sailed through layers of the cotton like nothing! I even adjusted some lace curtains for my mother
It's parts are interchangeable with the Juki DDL- 8500/8700 so that makes it even better! Parts and thread are really easy to find for this machine also, its just the Polyester thread colors in my country are really limited to basic colors. Since I sew alot of colorful fabric I've ordered some from ThreadArt. It is a great beginner industrial machine because its easy to get the hang of and does a great straight stitch What mimi007 does not like about this machine The manual was very hard to understand, I had to search the internet for another manual from Harbor Freight to learn how to wind the bobbin and load it! The bobbin winder for some reason I can not get it to wind without the needle going too, so I usually sew and wind! The winding process is very noisy because the winder is metal as is the bobbin, so it does this scrapping sound, thus I just ordered the sidewinder portable bobbin winder.
The only other thing is the motor takes a lot of current though, whenever I turn it on the current dips a bit so I'm going to invest in a surge protector.

What do you sew? | | * * * | | skae | 10/17/09 | I often wondered about these machines. you seem to like it. Let us know more later when you use it a little more. congrats on your machine. | | * * * | | mimi007 | 10/17/09 | Thanks very much! Hi Jilly and Flo, I use it to make garments but mostly I sew pouches and bags. | | * * * | | poplin | 10/18/09 | I think, this is a dupe review. I didn't leave a comment with the other but I did rate it "helpful" as you mentioned that household sewing machines did not suit your purpose (sewing mostly pouches and bags).
What were the Singer models that you ran through? I'm assuming that you wore out your household sewing machines sewing pouches and bags.
It's always interesting to see a review explaining why household sewing machines do not hold up to repeated use on heavy duty tasks. (I had to edit my comment. I completely forgot that you did mention what materials your industrial was built to handle.) | | * * * |
