| | What zanylady likes about this machine I think I am in love.
This machine is heavy, all steel construction in a brown and tan color. It has a lid that comes down over the machine and clamps on up near the handle. the table and accessory box were not with the machine. I imagine the table would be easy to find if I ever decided that I needed it. I had to order a manual before I could do anything. Lots of buttons but with no manual the best I could do was straight stitching.
Got the manual and have been playing with it all day. This machine doesn't just sew, it purrs. It is an electronic machine. It has a dozen different stitches, you just push a little button for the stitch and another for the length and width, the length will show up on a little computer screen and away it goes.It even has an overlock stitch.
The feed dogs can be lowered or raised, you can set the needle to stop in the up or down position. It can use twin needles on most of the decorative stitches and you can mend or embroider with the feed dogs down, although I imagine it would take a bit of practice to do any embroidering.
The manual is one of the clearest I have seen yet. Lots of pictures and step by step instructions. I want to get some twin needles and see what I can do with them. The machine can do mirroring with 1 or 2 needles.
I can see why Viking was considered one of the top machines. I will add more as I learn more about it.

Thanks for the great review and I do hope after you have had this awhile you will expand the review! | | * * * | | my_seamstress | 10/23/09 | That's just like my mother's machine! I sewed a few 4-H projects on that baby. Her's is still going. It was the top of the line in it's day. She got hers in the early 80s, I believe. I never liked/used the plastic table, but that's just my opinion. | | * * * | | my_seamstress | 10/23/09 | | | * * * | | johnr55 | 10/23/09 | Beautiful machine! Looks like it's in evening dress. Have you found it to be jam-proof? | | * * * | | Karen | 11/13/09 | Hi Zanylady,
You are so lucky to have a Viking. I have the 6570 which is the last Selectronic (non computer) machine they made. Mine was purchased in 1979 and still works like a champ. Your model was next. These old Vikings are the greatest. Congratulations! | | * * * |
