| | What okie2thdoc likes about this machine EVERYTHING! The buttonholes are beautiful. I sewed my first one yesterday and decided the double stitched one was best for the pants. No disappointments here.
I have used many of the decorative stitches on various garments. Although the alphabet isn't embroidery by any means, it is adequate.
Quiet, this machine is in no way loud even at top speed. The control of the cutting and presser foot without hands comes in handy.
The Janome/Elna feet are interchangeable with this machine.
The needle threader wasn't functioning properly so I had to fix it- probably my fault in the first place.
What okie2thdoc does not like about this machine It has leaked oil for a few garments. I believe it is coming from the bobbin case but right now, am hoping it stops.
I will add more comments as I use the machine. Overall, it has exceeded my expectations. After replacing my Elna (TNT) machine, it had a lot to live up to.
The leaking has stopped (11/18/09) after several hours of use. Thank goodness.
Since I'm short, I'd like to see an adjustable height knee lever. It is difficult to reach from my table/knee relationship.
I don't like the stitch length of 2.4 that is automatic when you turn-on the machine. I'm looking for a way to enter a different length into memory.
Since it is somewhat computerized, I'd like to be able to upgrade via a USB or similar port- guess I need to go to an embroidery combination machine for that.

| Reader Comments | | Franksdottir | 10/26/09 | Oh, please come back and write more!! Lots of us are drooling over this machine and we want to hear EVERYTHING. Make a pot of coffee, put on a DVD for the kids, and settle in for a long report.
Think of it as the sewist version of porn! :) | | * * * | | jilly cooper | 10/26/09 | thank you okie2thdoc for this review. Apart from the oil thing I have only heard good things about the HZL's, have you got any feedback from the dealer/manufacturer about the oil leak? Is it because it is new??? | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 10/27/09 | I don't think it's suppose to leak oil. I think you should definitely put a call in to your sm guy. I heard these were fabulous machines. Maybe you could let us know more when you have a chance. | | * * * | | BeautifulRune | 10/27/09 | I know when my viking was new, maybe about a month or two old, it got a little bit of oil on one of my shirts. I just wiped up any excess oil that I could see where it did not belong and I have not had a problem since. | | * * * | | JudithB | 10/27/09 | Thank you for the review. I have been on the fence about this machine, but I did bite the bullet and ordered it. Ken's does have it for $995 - am I allowed to say that. The speak very highly about the Juki brand. I have owned every brand except Juki - guess I needed to round it out. I really thought I was going to order the 98Q, but this review changed my mind. I am going blind as no one near here has one. It helps that Ken's takes back machines in 30 days, so if I hate it I will end up with the 98Q | | * * * | | maespinoza28 | 10/27/09 | Thanks okie2thdoc! I've been waiting to see what you'd like in this machine! I'm loving mine! Best money I've spent in a LONG time in terms of sewing machines! | | * * * | | jilly cooper | 10/27/09 | Judith, I too was interested in the 98Q, but reading how good these HZL's are I am considering buying one and using a converter. The jukis in Australia are EXTREMELY expensive, cheaper to buy on line. | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 11/1/09 | Well I've been saying I was going to order this machine and finally ordered it Saturday. I'm very excited. Unfortunately it will take about two weeks. I guess I will be selling my TL 98Q. I really love that machine but miss the decorative stitches. | | * * * | | anee | 11/3/09 | I am having a difficult time finding this machine on-line, to buy. Any suggestions? | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 11/4/09 | anee, Ken's sew and vac has it for $999. They have all the exceed series, F300, F400 and F600 each for the same price $999. | | * * * |
