| | What zoey micz likes about this machine I love the duel lighting, thread cutter, auto tie-off, automatic pivot when set to needle down position. This machine automatically raises and lowers the presser foot when you press or release the foot control. It sews fabulous buttonholes and bar tacks. The decorative stitches and alphabets are lovely. The large harp is wonderful for queen size quilts and just to have the extra room for all my sewing projects.
I named my QE4 Bertha, when she sews properly she is the star of my craft emporium. Bertha was experiencing glitches, thread jams in bobbin area, timing issues for fancy stitches and once the machine just froze up while I was sewing. I had to take back for service to unfreeze it. My Pfaff dealer (Wayne) is a super guy who guarantees to make this machine work for me. So far Wayne has been excellent. Currently, Betha is sewing flawlessly. What zoey micz does not like about this machine On my QE4 the top-loading bobbin was designed exactly like my Husqvarna Computer 500. Both machines use the same bobbins. However, the Pfaff's sewing bed is designed differently than the Husqvarna as there is a dip where the bobbin cover starts. If you are not paying hyper attention this dip flips your bottom seams and then they are sewed in the wrong direction. The problem can be minimized by using the quilting table and setting it slightly higher than the bobbin casing area. I find this annoying since QE4 is a quilting machine I expected Pfaff to test this top loading bobbin design thoroughly before it left the factory. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | johnr55 | 11/1/09 | Sounds like the conglomerate that now owns Pfaff and Viking is making machines with the same parts. I've never been able to look at Pfaff due to lack of a dealer nearby. A beautiful machine, kudos do whoever did the outer shell. | | * * * | | Mufffet | 11/1/09 | Thanks for this review. Balanced and useful. | | * * * | | Sewnknit | 11/1/09 | Very good review. I hope that you continue enjoying your beautiful sm. | | * * * | | dbsewer | 11/1/09 | Thank you for a nice review. It sounds like you're really enjoying your machine. Re: the bobbin - it's the result of extensive consumer surveys that say most people want the drop-in bobbin. And it is easier to change when in embroidery mode. You have to be hyper careful to thread the bobbin correctly no matter the machine. Ask me how I know :-). | | * * * | | MegquiltsinVT | 11/2/09 | Somewhere I read that a UPS is necessary for any of these computerized machines; it will eliminate all/most of the "glitches". One problem I experienced with my QE4 was when I used a spool of thread which wouldn't ft on either of the spool pins. I'd set it on the table behind the machine and ran the thread through the eye of a safety pin which I'd taped to the back of the machine. After a while, the tape gave way and the thread got hung up on the tape. This caused horrible stitches, broken thread, all sorts of headaches. I changed the bobbin, needle, re-threaded numerous times, and THEN I noticed the safety pin/tape area. My husband rigged up a super-high thread holder from a coat hangar to draw the thread straight off the bobbin and over the top of the machine. All my problems were solved. Enjoy your new Bertha. | | * * * |
