What zoey micz likes about this machine
Everything. This machine is dependable, easy to use and fun. It sews capital letters alphabet, has some quilting stitches and a one-step buttonhole foot. I've sewn everything from denim jeans, heavy motorcycle leather to fine sheer curtains. I made my daughter's grad dress complete with boning and lining. I have a walking foot for it and have made quite a few quilts. The needle up down works wonderfully. I can set it to sew permanent reverse. It has four programmable memories for storing stitches sequences and words.

What zoey micz does not like about this machine
The foot pedal is designed to sew very slowly if you release the pressure slowly. I have to take my foot off quickly to stop the machine from sewing. This is supposed to be helpful when repositioning your work or sewing over thick seams. I find it annoying because I want the machine to stop sewing completely. Once it is sewing slowly instead of stopping I have to kick the pedal down and up rapidly to stop sewing or turn off the power switch.

I would recommend this machine in a heartbeat. I collect sewing machines and currently own about a dozen of them My Husqvarna Computer 500 (Heidi) continues to be my favourite.

gailincarp 11/2/09Very good review. I would love to find an older machine like this. Happy sewing!

Lil Flo 11/4/09I had a Viking 555. I think it is more geared toward garment sewers. After trying different brand sm and models, I found the presser foot did not lift up very high. I had to stuff a quilt sandwiich. I did like it enough to buy it twice. But finally, sold it.
