| | What Janbee likes about this machine I truly tried to like this machine. Having owned several top of the line machines of other brands including Janome and Elna, I was convinced I would love this machine. The Bernina Stitch Regulator is a great attachment and I did enjoy using it. The 9MM decorative stitches are fun. What Janbee does not like about this machine This machine was not user friendly. I did not like the front loading bobbin system. Bernina accessories for this machine are terribly over priced. Embroidery is difficult to learn on this machine and the updates are way out of reason price wise. I sold it and went to something I could love and enjoy. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. | Reader Comments | | hese61 | 11/17/09 | I agree, Bernina accessories are expensive but not over priced. I would say Husqvarna's snap-on feet are over priced.
I love front loading bobbin systems both CB and rotary hook. Clear simple and reliable. I do hate top loading machines. No thanks, not for me :) | | * * * | | dbsewer | 11/17/09 | Makes me laugh when I read responses that say this machine's feet are overpriced but not compared to that brand. Nice of you, hese61, to take this opportunity to slam Viking. I own a Bernina and a Viking and they are comparably priced and both work just as well. I like the snap-on feature for ease, personally, and I love the top loading bobbin. As for this review, Janbee, I wish you had included more information on what this machine does and what you mean by it not being user-friendly. The way you respond to a machine's interface is very personal. This reads more like a vent than a review. | | * * * | | Mufffet | 11/17/09 | This review needs a LOT more info to be a review. What made you buy this machine? What features does it have? So many of these TOL machine "reviews" presuppose that we should know all about them. I am so sorry you didn't like this machine, but I would really like to know what your suppositions were when you bought it, and what machine made you happy? :)
I really would like to know these things, I am not being critical of you, but some of us cannot get enough of whatever it might be you have to say about your machines!
And, because it has been mentioned, I find Viking feet to be fantastic! I bet I would also love a Bernina. I would expect the accessories to be of the quality of these machines, so yes, Viking and Bernina are expensive for accessories as well. | | * * * | | annenet | 11/17/09 | I agree, Bernina feet are expensive but well worth the investment. That's why I have so many Berninas! Love, love, love the machines and the accessories. Very well made and durable! | | * * * | | Lil Flo | 11/17/09 | You did not list anything but why you dislike Bernina Machine so much. Mostly everyone knows that the accessories for a Bernina can get expensive, but they of high quality. Maybe you could do your homework next time and spend the money you are comfortable with spending on accessories and one that is user friendly. Bernina is usually really good about classes on how to operate their machines. I think that in my home town, The Bernina Shop has more free lessons on how to operate their machiens than any other dealer in town. Unfortunately, I can't afford them, so I stay away. This sounds like more venting than an actual reveiw. This seems more of a topic for the message board. | | * * * | | helpsy | 11/17/09 | Wow, what did you replace it with? | | * * * | | dalebarnes | 11/17/09 | I have the 730E and love it. They are similar machines. When you get the machine from an excellent Bernina dealer, they will give you free classes forever. I think that solves the problem of the learning curve. I was also not used to a front loading bobbin, but it did not take long to adjust to it. I love the versatility of these Bernina machines and find the quality to be outstanding. I make clothes, quilts, do crafts and enjoy the embroidery. The stitches are beautiful and easily adjustable. I knew the cost of the feet and other accessories when I bought the machine and knew what I was getting into. I have never had a drop of trouble with his machine and have had it for almost 4 years. I think that a good Bernina dealer who is available for help, and the availability of free classes is the only way to go with these machines if you are at all gun shy about a more complex machine with multiple features and versatility. | | * * * | | johnr55 | 11/17/09 | Not a review; some the comments here are longer! Ever seen how the Bernina feet are cast and polished like jewelry to ensure top performance? Have owned a whole pile of different brands, each has their strengths. | | * * * | | busyozmum | 11/18/09 | I'd love to know what you replaced it with. | | * * * | | mollyshark | 11/19/09 | Reads like a plant from a competitor! The 6 series Berninas are one of the best. | | * * * | | MochaB | 11/20/09 | It is true that the Bernina feet are expensive, but I have the 640e and the quality of the feet sold me on the machine. I have another machine with snap-on feet, and after about 10 years those feet started getting loose. I really put those snap-on feet through their paces, but I came to the conclusion they were not going to be cheaper if I had to buy them twice. I personally love the quality of the 640e and I love the bobbin. Sure, is isn't as easy as a drop-in, but none of the drop-ins I tested sewed nearly as cleanly and precisely. How much you like a machine depends on your personal preference and how much time you will sew on the machine, but I really love my 640e. | | * * * |
