| | What Marie_P. likes about this machine When I first started reading PR I thought it was crazy that people had more than one machine with some ladies having up to five machines. I just couldn''t comprehend it!!! But now I have a sewing machine, embroidery machine, serger and coverstitch machine. (What has PR done to me??)
I bought this machine used, last year from the PR classifieds. The price was right and I'm glad I purchased it.
It does coverhem and chain stitches. Stitch length and tension can be adjusted. I didn't find the threading to be difficult. The diagrams are good. One of the other reviewers mentioned that the threading appears designed for someone left-handed. I'm left-handed so perhaps its a plus for me but could be less intuitive to the right-handed population.
I've used this machine on many different fabrics and the stitches look beautiful.
I prefer having a separate serger and coverstitch machine. I had a Husqvarna Viking 936, that was a major pain to thread however having two different machines, one serger and one coverstitch, is much more convenient.

| Reader Comments | | Restart06 | 2/6/10 | Thanks, I just heard about this machine today and was curious about it. | | * * * | | Betakin | 2/7/10 | I agree that this machine does thread a bit differently than most cover hem machines. I think you purchased it for a nice price. Several years back when I first started looking to purchase a coverhem machine this machine was $800 at my dealers. The only reason that I did not buy it was because I wanted a CL machine that could also do a 3 seam cover hem. I had seen posts where this machine always performed well and was a work horse model. I'm glad you are enjoying your 009. | | * * * | | annenet | 2/7/10 | Very nice review! I've heard that this is a great workhorse so enjoy! | | * * * | | Michele Lommasson | 2/7/10 | You are spot on. I owned one of these machines for several years and got quite a lot of use out of it. I only gave it up because I purchased a high end machine which did a top and bottom coverstitch. I use it exclusively for covestitch, so I reluctantly gave up my 009. | | * * * | | grey ann | 2/7/10 | I have this and the Bernina 800DL serger. It is nice to have both, so you don't have to change the set up back and forth. I guess I just have to work with my 009 bec. I have had trouble getting it to do a nice coverstitch on rayon knits. The stitches skip at the side seams. | | * * * | | bacon | 2/9/10 | I find this machine very hard to use. It skips stitches and is very fiddly I have had mine for about 3 -4 years and have only used it about 3 times because of the time involved in trying to get the machine to work properly | | * * * | | AdaH | 2/9/10 | that was a really good price for the cover stitch machine. I paid $800 for mine. I have not used it a lot because it skipped stitches whenever I would go over a seam. | | * * * | | Rose Sews | 2/17/10 | Bacon, maybe you need a good technician to look at your machine. From the time I bought my 009 several years ago I had a lot of problems with it and the looper thread kept unthreading. It skipped stitches too. The problems seemed to be getting worse, so I took it to a sewing machine technician and he worked wonders on it. Now it is great and I really enjoy using it and don't have any problems with it. Since then I bought a Baby Lock Evolve and just this week bought a Janome CoverPro 1000CPX, but I will always keep my 009 because it does a 5mm wide cover stitch and the others do either 3mm wide, 6mm wide or a triple stitch. I like the 5mm wide for t-shirts. | | * * * |
