I've been wanting a blind hemmer for a long long time. I know...not something I might use a lot. But it is the last tool needed in my sewing room....I have a combo sewing machine/embroidery machine, a 4 thread serger, a 5 thread serger, and a coverstitich. Not to count my vintage machines. Anyhow....I put in my request to santa (husband) and for my birthday / Christmas gift, UPS delivered this right to my door. Machine is much smaller than I thought, about the same size as my sergers. The manual was simple but clear on what you need to do for set up and to use it.. I rethreaded the machine by tying off at first, but I have also threaded it on my own, if you can do a serger, this is even easier. Needle threading is really not bad, have needle all the way to the left in highest position, use the tweezers to hold end of thread, and push through eye of needle. Machine sews SUPER fast, have to tread lightly on pedal to keep it slower. Blind hem is truly "blind" on the right side of the fabric. Press hem as you want it , load it into machine hem side up and go. Easy to align edge of hem along guide so blindhem is in correct position. Took me a bit to figure out the "finish off" so thread doesn't unravel but after some practice got it. Looking forward to using it a lot, I know for years I've been doing "creative" hems because I hate hand hemming, and the blindstitch on the sewing machine does not do a quality job, especially noticable after washing a garment a few times.
By the by, got this from Allbrands....free shipping, plus a box of 50 needles for free ($54 value). Shipped very quckly. Comes beautifully packed by manufacturor in very large box in a styrofoam bed. Very very happy. It seems made well, its all metal, and heavy. Has swing away plate for easy access to the needle area, or if you need a small free arm. What sewalforfun does not like about this machine
Very heavy. No light, so I've put it near a large Ott light I have. Also, no on/off switch, so I pull the whole controller plug out of machine entirely and put it away so my grandson doesn't drive this thing. Otherwise, no complaints! | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review
