What costumecherie likes about this machine small - somewhat portable - easy to thread, relatively inexpensive. What costumecherie does not like about this machine I bought this machine from allbrands.com and it was broken right out of the box. I am a professional tailor/costume maker and have worked with many of these machines before. Once I set it up, it made grinding noises and burning smells. I had to call allbrands.com several times over the next two weeks before they would accept a return, they claimed on the phone that they had no return policy because no one has ever returned anything ever - ridiculous!!
I had them send me another machine that worked fine for the first few months - I hemmed several pairs of pants on it a day. After that particular job I carefully put it back in it's original styrofoam packaging and stored it in my house for 6 months. the next time I set it up the pedal wasn't working quite right - sometimes it would run - but sometimes pressing the pedal had no result - this became more and more frequent until the pedal didn't work at all. So for $300 bucks I got a huge hassle and a blind hemmer that was only good for a couple of months. Also I would never buy from Allbrands again. it took them forever to arrange a return agreement. I had to call day after day to get a result.

Sorry, this is a rant, not a review. You've used many of them before...what's great about having one for personal use?

Thanks, I will stay away from All-Brands!

Well as a professional tailor/costume maker whom has worked with many blind stitch machines before, you must know how much a good one normally costs, and that to buy a good one brand new for $300 is kind of really unheard of. Just look at all the other reviews even here for the even same rather very inexpensive product, and see how much more everyone else paid for theirs and actually they were even happy with them. Also that Allbrands does not make them, and does not sew on and test each one before shipping it you and you did have the second one which worked when you got it and only did not for after you stopped using it for 6 months. Can't beleive I'm defending all Brands, but I guess I am on this one. Why not pay more the normal amount for one, since you must know what that is, and actually get it and use it? If things are too cheap to be true, most times there is a reason, and I say that not only for where you get something from but even the factory that makes it sometimes. So this does sound like more a beef with a distributor or a particular store than a review of a machine, as the only actual part where you say you used it at all, was just for a few months and it "worked fine". That does not really say a lot about sewing on the actual machine at all.

Try Raicherts in Phoenix AZ next time for industrials. They're great. Just call, they ship.
