|What CozyCotton likes about this machine|
This is my second sewing machine after a Brother BM-3600. So you can imagine how surprised I am by this Bernina 440. My purchase is a second hand 440 including the Embroidery Module (from eBay). I have not used the Embroidery Module so far so I cannot comment on it. I visited a dealer and tested out this model first. I was told 440 was pretty much the same as 550. 550 comes with a nicer and color display. I did not quite care about those minor difference.
I can't ask more on the quality of the stitches. It runs very smooth. Like everyone says, the needle up and down is very useful because you don't need to turn the wheel all the time. I especially like I can accurately control the speed. The foot pedal is comfortable to use. I also like the feed dog pull the fabric well and the presser feet pressure can be adjusted. It also comes with a extension table with markings, which gives me easy to guide the fabric. It sews a few types of button holes and button holes are very quality and neat.
I do not have any problem with it so far. Although I hesitated before the purchase, now I think it's the best thing I bought so far. It gets me into sewing so much more.
What CozyCotton does not like about this machine
I just don't like the Bernina instruction manual and the CD. I think it can be more resourceful if they show more on how to use of stitches and functions practically on different kind of sewing. I would prefer one continuous video demonstrating how to use different stitches and functions on various practical projects like Brother's CD does. I don't like lots of videos show a person talking on the garment or the piece of quilt she's done. :( It makes me feel I have to go the a Bernina club to learn more about the machine.
