What BetsyJxn likes about this machine I love everything about this machine! It serges beautifully around curves, over hems, through multiple layers, etc; and it's very quiet/stable on my work table. I had a Janome 1100D before I got this one and the threads would break constantly. It was a nightmare to rethread, which it constantly required, so I got to the point where I almost never serged anything. I have been coveting a Babylock for years so I finally got one and OH MY GOSH WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG? The threading is so easy that I would almost put up with constantly breaking thread... except that I don't have to because my thread doesn't break on the Babylock. I would also put up with lesser stitch quality just to have the easy threading... but I don't have to! It stitches nicely. It's very easy to switch back and forth between rolled hems and regular serging; the rolled hems come out very nicely, too. I find myself serging all my edges when I sew now because it's so easy to use the Enlighten. I'm very happy with it. What BetsyJxn does not like about this machine I think I would be completely happy, never to buy another serger ever if only Babylock would put a better automatic needle threader on this machine. I feel like a whiner even mentioning it; but since we get to mention what we don't like.....
It's a really great machine, though! |

Great review! This machine sounds amazing and I've become a Babylock convert myself this year. I came across a used Babylock Imagine serger and had to talk myself into buying it because it was several hundreds of dollars for a used machine. But I have fallen in love and wondered why I waited so long to get a Babylock when I had heard amazing things for years about them too. The Enlighten that you have I've heard does even more than my model so it truly must be awesome!

I totally understand your Enlightenment (heh) because I love love love my Enlighten to pieces! i know it's expensive, but the ease of threading, and more importantly, the perfect fabulous wonderful superb auto tensions is worth every single penny and then some! I'm so glad you love yours. :)

My new Enlighten is on order and should be in this week -- my first Babylock too. :-)

I love mine too. Yes- the automatic needle threader. Another person in my serger class should me this little needle threader notion- it's perfect every time, I don't know what it's called or even the company-it's not marked.

I think the reason there's no threader is due to the wave stitch capability, which must leave no room for one. My Imagine, which does not offer a wave stitch, does have a solid little built-in auto threader, which still works great after many years. My Evolution, like your Enlighten, has no auto threader but did come with a little manual threading tool which works quite well in its stead. Look in your tool box because maybe your machine has one as well. If so, look in the manual for its technique. If it doesn't have one, I'm sure you can order the one the Evolution has from your dealer.

I really love the manual threader device that came with mine. I ordered a second one to stick in my portable sewing machine case because it doesn't have auto threading. You are right though- not much else to complain about and auto-threading would take it to a new level. Perhaps one day?

I purchased this machine this year and there is a needle threader on it it takes time and a light touch to use. I still am not as thrilled with it as everyone else and am thinking of not keeping it for more than a year. I don't think it's as solidly built some others I've tried. I don't like that the blade does not go all the way down. I'm not too thrilled with the machines rolled hem. And I miss the Elna that I had with the tilt needle threader which made threading needles and changing needles easier. So it's okay. And the air jet threading is nice, but I'm not totally sold.

I may be confused-but mine has (?) an auto threader* behind the needle-the one you pull down, put the thread through-and then a tiny hook pulls it through the needle. I can't get it to work-but the exact same one is on my Designer Diamond-and I can't get that one to work-so, it's a user problem. *I say "auto" because I think it is-but it isn't "auto"-you have to line up the thread and and push the hook lever.

@Joycea- you should sell yours! It's much to expensive to have if you're not 100% in love. Plus, they hold their value.
