Discuss Sewing Machines with PR members Sewing Machine Forum | | What hese61 likes about this machine Wow, this machine is my very first Singer and my first computerised sewing machine. It has some good qualities: easy to thread, the machine is bigger than my Bernina 1031 but lighter in weight. It has lots of stitches both utility and decorative stitches, seven buttonholes and alphabets. Last but not least this machine is very beautiful with rounded edges. This machine has a lot of features at low price, but... What hese61 does not like about this machine I had high hopes, maybe too high, long sigh. Firstly, presser feet what a joke; flimsy and cheaply made. This machine is noisy (my Bernina just purrs). I mean really noisy. Three led-lights but they are too dim. I don't like drop-in bobbin (this is my personal opinion not a fault). Plastic everywhere; plastic parts inside and plastic outside.
Biggest minus comes here; I tried different fabrics from light fabrics to thick denim and knitted fabrics. I was very disappointed with the quality of the stitches, even a straight stitch was not a straight.
Instruction manual is horrible to read, four languages (Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish)
The conclusion; this machine is not a lemon. It's todays Singer-quality. This machine was my first and last Singer. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Membership is free. if you are not a member, please Sign-up now! |

Sorry to hear about your disappointment. In Finland, is it possible to find a vintage Husqvarna (before 1980) in good condition for a good price? These machines were meant to last. Sometimes they need servicing - I replaced a cam stack in my 6750 (here they're called 'Viking') - but will serve you well for years to come. You will, of course, sacrifice the computerized features. Berninas were superb machines; I can't say for sure about the new ones.

Thank you for your descriptive review. Sigh. It's so sad when a machine you paid decent money for doesn't meet the basic stitch requirements. I hope you can either return the machine for a full refund, or, that you discover something about the machine that it does well that makes it worth keeping. Good luck!

I'm sorry you were disappointed with your machine, but I think it's a little harsh to judge the entire Singer brand quality so negatively when it sounds like this is the only one you've used. I have the 8780 and it gave me similar problems when I first got it, turns out I was threading both the bobbin and the needle incorrectly. Maybe you're experiencing a similar problem?

sorry you are disappointed. And it makes me sad that even at that price your singer isn't sewing a decent straight line. I had problems with my singer doing that, but it was a machine that was given to me and I think was only around $90, so I didn't really expect a lot out of it. A decent straight stitch was the number one thing I wanted in my next machine so I ended up using my junky one for a couple years longer until I could afford to buy myself a bernina. So glad I did. I hope you can figure out a good use for your machine or trade it in for something that will work better for you.
