I was looking for something that I could travel with easily and It fits the bill totally. It has the things I need and want no matter where I am and am happy with it. Though it is a 3/4 machine it sews like a full sized one and has the same motor as the full sized 500s series machines. It has full power, the lighting is great, the needle threader works perfectly, each part is finished beautifully. It has the Hands Free knee lift. Needle up/down a very nice array of stitch patterns.
I used it to sew a quilt binding last week with the walking foot on and it did this job as well as my Bernina 635 would have. It is fun to sew on and I like to have it on the first floor of the house when I dont want to be isolated up stairs and to sew on the porch in the warm weather.
It comes with a zippered case for the all the feet. and a white matt extension table that is really sturdy and easy to remove for free arm sewing. The feet are snap on, but honestly I thought the number one foot that was on the machine when I first sewed on it, was a one piece foot. That is how well the feet fit on to the shank. It sews fast and smooth and it is quiet. The stitches are the same quality as my 635. All together I have been very impressed with this little gem, that weights in at 18lbs. All new style feet from my 635 will also fit this machine. Another plus!
It sews everything well. One may opt to use a walking foot with the 300 series, if and when adjusting the pressure foot is ever needed and to compensate NOT have adjustable pressure foot pressure. (
It plows though what ever I have thrown at it including some really dense and multi layered canvas. All in all I really like this machine.-
I keep it in a really pretty Bernina Rolling Case that I bought for a great price also. Bonus is my 635 just fits into it also. The case is a sueded cloth with shiny black vinyl details. Its greeny blue, very well padded. It is were the machine is stored, and is always ready to go for a ride.
What Artsewer does not like about this machine I think Bernina should have put adjustable pressure foot on the 300 seies machines I think this is really a shame.
I am not a fan of the cards that you have to snap on to the machine to see the stitch selection I misplace things too easily! Otherwise I love this machine. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Membership is free. if you are not a member, please Sign-up now! |

The card thing is awkward I also think, but this is one great machine. LOVE the lighting and just the whole machine. :) Thanks for this review.

Great review! I'm glad to see more of the 3 series getting reviewed. I have the 350 and my friend has the 380 and loves it.

I agree abou the card. When I had the Activa 230 PE I kept mine in the vinyl sleeve in the back of the instruction book. Don't know if this one comes with that.

Lovely review. I'm always happy to hear from someone who has made a great purchase, as this sounds like the perfect travel machine for you. Even though it's missing a few features of the 5 series, at that price point you have a really sweet Bernina. I wonder why the photo isn't coming up?

To answer GothDom, No it is not BSR compatable.

I'm so glad you love your new little machine. Apropos the card: I always tell my mastery students to copy their stitch card onto card-stock, laminate it, and keep the copy in the machine case. It's nice to have an extra, in the event that you leave yours at home. Thank you for the review. It was very thorough.

Nice review. I did not know the BSR would not work on the 380. I just learned something new about it, thank you. I can tell you really enjoy this machine and what it can do. I also wish Bernina had put the adjustable pressure foot on the 380. I have found it is something I really like after not having a machine without it.
