Discuss Sewing Machines with PR members Sewing Machine Forum | | What zoey micz likes about this machine I love the large harp, duel lights, auto presser foot lifter, IDT, one step automatic button holes, decorative stitches and the embroidery module. I traded up from my Pfaff QE 4, so the menu buttons are identical to the QE 4 which meant I only really needed to learn how to use the embroidery unit.
The embroidery designs that came with it are fabulous. I bought excellent inexpensive software called SewWhatPro on-line which converts embroidery files to the format my machine uses. The Embroidery Library on-line gives away two free designs every month, sometimes more. I have also bought designs from them. My Pfaff Creative 2 does excellent free motion quilting using the Dynamic 6D spring motion foot that I modified to make it open toed. http://tammyscraftemporium.blogspot.ca/2012/02/pfaff-dynamic-spring-motion-6d-foot.html
I have done quite a bit of embroidery with this machine and free motion quilting. I bought a straight stitch needle plate for it which really helps for piecing. I completed the 2012 free motion quilting challenge with wonderful results.

At the moment, I own a dozen sewing machines including three treadles. Set up in my craft emporium is the Pfaff Creative 2, Bernina 930 Record and Husqvarna Lily 555. Frequently, I will be sewing with the Bernina or Lily while the Pfaff is embroidering. The Pfaff Creative 2 is a wonderful sewing machine that I feel gives a great bang for the buck. What zoey micz does not like about this machine The Pfaff Creative 2 is fussy about thread. My Creative 2 will not sew Sulky 100% cotton quilting thread it breaks the needle thread repeatedly. It will not sew Metallic thread, either top thread breaks or there are thread nests in the bobbin area. The thread cutter will not cut Superior 100% cotton thread or denim thread. It cuts wonderfully on 100% polyester surger thread and most of the time using Marathon 100% polyester trilobal embroidery threads. Occasionally, like once a year it will shred the needle thread (I'm blaming bad thread for this). I have learned to listen very carefully to this machine whenever I begin stitching as well I clean the bobbin area every time I refill the bobbin, this has eliminated thread nests in the bobbin area.
The manual is not very helpful. Pfaff could really learn a lesson in manual writing from Bernina or Husqvarna. I had to take my Pfaff back to the dealer to learn how to use the embroidery unit.
Embroidery software is not compatible with Mac computers. Fortunately, for me I own a tiny Toshiba netbook, that I copied the Pfaff software from the cd to a flash drive then installed it on the netbook. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. Thank you for an excellent review! How interesting about the threads. I am beginning to think modern machines are touchy about thread, and this isn't good. Enjoy your stable of machines!

Oh - another note on manuals - yes, Husqvarna sure does a good manual! And they have more then one resource for most machines, as in a "workbook", so this really helps with the Vikings.

Interesting review. I have this machine and love it for general garment sewing but I confess I have not used the embroidery capabilities. I can't help thinking this machine can do more than I know how to do.

I am considering adding a Pfaff machine to my collection, thanks for your helpful information. I found some Pfaff vintage manuals online, well over 80 pages, well detailed and indexed. They included pictured and text for every available foot and accessory and what stitch to use on each fabric type. Its a shame they have gone downhill. My Bernina Manual was skimpy at 28 pages but my BL was well over 200. So lots of variation in manuals. I don't know what embroidery file type is on a Pfaff but have you checked out Stitch Buddy, a native Mac embroidery program? I have that and Embrilliance with has limited Mac functionality- it has more features when run on Windows. I love the ease of use with SB, its just pure fun to use and has an iPad app now. When I first got it, there was no PES file support so I would use SB to edit, save as a JEF and then use a conversion program to save the JEF as a PES. It was worth the extra step because of SB editing drag & drop and touch pad input- very responsive. EE doesn't offer that when installed on a Mac and it favors font & monogram editing while SB is super at editing merged designs plus fonts. You are right about the threads on these computer machines. They can be picky. Have you tried a thread conditioner to see if that would help?

The pfaff creative sensation does not have the thread issues. I know with my pfaff 2144 I had to lay the sulky thread down horizontially at the back of the machine (not on a thread spool). Also try using a top stitch or metallic thread needle and slow your speed down.
