The machine is fantastic! I have had it for 10 years and my quantity of sewing goes from full quilting to a lot of embroidery to a couple of repairs once a year. No matter how much or little I use it, it works perfectly. I also bought the embroidery unit with it. I can't remember if that was included in the price (I think it was). I have embroidered so many items (hoodies for a tv production crew, birthday party favours, stuff for the house, upholstery leather). I have all the hoops and I use them. I love the embroidery software - I own the 3D Embroidery and it works well and does everything I need it to. I have the Professional version. The machine is a work horse and I have done quilts, sewn leather, created embroidered clothing, patches, and it sews silk as well as the leather.
What raventwist does not like about this machine
Viking Service - when there's a problem its incredibly insane to try to get service. My embroidery unit came cracked off the UPS truck and luckily I had a stellar dealer who had it switched out. But he ended up dealing with the hassle because for me to call - it got me no where.
My biggest issue with recommending this is the price and the software/hardware for the embroidery unit. If you want a great sewing machine, its worth it. It is for quiliting and embroidery so (for the time) had a big throat so you could get a quilt in relatively easily.
I would not recommend buying it for embroidery unless you own a computer with Windows XP with SP3. I have spent the last year frustrated beyond belief. I bought a new Windows 7 computer and everything worked except for the d card reader/writer that is propietary to Viking. THey would not send me the link for updated software. My software was registered, I had the dongle, I had all my updates saved on CDs. I had carefully updated and kept everything. When I bought the system, Viking took back the previous dongle. So when I tried to load it all on a new computer I couldn't. They could have given me a few pointers since there are so many people over the last 6/7 years who have had the same problem. Not even an offer to give me a discount if I upgraded my software. They told me that they no longer supported the d card reader/writer (but no other product will work on my sewing machine) and I just had to buy the new software. I also had problems with the dongle (a software security device) and they wouldn't just send me the link to get the Aladdin HASP4 update (I figured it out myself). Their new software costs about $2,400 for Professional. And then I'd have to buy a new sewing/embroidery machine for another $3,500. I would not choose this machine as an embroidery machine, just because the card system needed to transfer the files from your computer to the machine is obsolete. IF you can find an intact machine with embroidery system, with a Windows XP computer then its a great machine. Just don't ask Husqvarna Viking for any support.
