|What nestle likes about this machine|
When I took my Coverhem in to the dealer, he had a Bernina 130 at a great price. My 1530 was being cleaned and serviced and I suppose that made me weaker. I didn't plan to get another sewing machine, because I don't need another one, but like I say, the price....
I think this is the perfect machine. It is in perfect shape and stitches beautifully. It is so smooth and quiet you have to tell yourself it's sewing. It doesn't require you to bring the bobbin thread up, the foot pedal is the big comfortable Bernina one, with the needle up/down heel tap, it has the best darn darning function I have ever seen, and the perfect set of stitches and functions for garment sewing. Changing the needle position is easier and the adjustable presser foot pressure is fantastic. I have many many more stitches and functions on my 1530 and I will never get rid of that one, but I just love the simplicity of the 130.
It has 15 stitches, all selected with buttons on the front of the machine, and a manual buttonhole that works well enough that if I only needed two or three, I'd use it. I bought a set of magnifiers for it, which I've always wanted, and a new #1 foot that was missing. It came with #2 through #5 feet and #12 which seems like enough if I'm keeping it simple. The magnifiers are a perfect accompaniment to the darning function. I love love love the storage case that fits around the free arm; it holds everything needed to deal with the machine, tools, 5 feet, and extra bobbins. I get very frustrated with my Bernina 1530's stuff in a case that just doesn't work.
The only thing I really miss is the knee lift; It could be put on the 130 but my dealer says it's an expensive proposition. I'm still tempted, though, because then I'd have the perfect sewing machine, hands down. With maybe a straight stitch foot and a straight stitch plate but there I go wanting more.
I don't have room for 7 machines but I'm trying hard to find a reason why I have to keep this one. I wish I knew someone who was learning to sew and could see what a treasure this machine is. It would have to be somebody I liked enormously, though, who deserved it!
What nestle does not like about this machine
Very minor, it doesn't have a vertical spool pin. At least mine doesn't.
