|What Shari7 likes about this machine|
I was looking for a solid mechanical machine to handle heavier fabric like duck cloth and this used SM delivers. The 1.0 amp motor is so quiet and smooth. It seems so much steadier and confident than my .66 amp Brother computerized SM. I have been sewing for 40 years and learned on a Kenmore/Janome and love the feel of these machines.
I like the fact that when I turn it on, it doesn't default to the default stitch, it's right where I left it.
The SM has all the stitches I need so I don't see a need to buy a more expensive computerized machine with lots of stitches I will never use.
ETA: I don't need a computer to sew straight! I have a serger and coverstitch machine so I probably won't even use the zigzag unless I'm in a hurry. Also, I wonder about the long-term reliability and durability of computerized machines, sounds like they may be less repairable than a good ole mechanical machine.
I've never had a machine with the up/down feature and so far I like it.
Like my Janome CoverPro, it has a very sharp thread cutter.
Love the accessory compartment on top of the machine, much easier to keep track of presser feet and I like the fact that the thread is enclosed in there, seems less messy to me.
The foot pedal is metal and flatter, seems easier to use and stays in place, on carpet anyway.
I also used the machine to sew knit jersey and it handled it just fine, the seven feed dogs probably helped.
This is a great machine for a beginner but also for more advanced sewers who want a solid machine without a lot of bells and whistles.
Overall, I am very happy with this machine and I got it for a great price!
What Shari7 does not like about this machine
The plastic sliders for selecting stitch length and width seem a little flimsy. I can't seem to get the needle threader to work but I can thread the needle just fine without it. These are minor issues.
