|What UlteriorMotives likes about this machine|
-The weight is amazing. Compared to my Dinosaur of a sewing machine the 7422 was a relief especially when I needed to carry it to Conventions to finish a costume.
-The Choice of stitches is amazing, and they were easy to change with the click of a button, the lights changing so you knew you were on the right one. While I rarely used anything but a Straight or zigzag stitch, it was interesting to use the others for details that I never thought Id want or need.
-No matter what I sew the machine was always gentle to my fabric and I felt safe putting even the lightest or most fragile fabric through it. This includes brocades/Sari fabric, Organza, etc.
-The auto back stitch is FANTASTIC, the button placement makes it easy to use and you dont runt he risk of losing your fabric to the machine. You can have one hand gently on the button and the other on the fabric.
-Threading the machine(Once I properly learned) Is easy to figure out without reading the manual. Needle placement is great as well. I personally dont mind manually moving the needle up and down since I sew very awkward shapes and curves that will need constant adjustment.
For how long its lasted its done so much work and if I could Id get another one just for the sake of mobility and usefulness but I don't recommend it for heavy duty sewers/quilters. Despite all of this I do intend to upgrade eventually.
What UlteriorMotives does not like about this machine
-The body is very cheap, knock it a few times and if it doesnt crack it will come loose. Im used to a completely metal machine, so I felt apprehensive about using this at first. This also leads into the fact that these plastic pieces(inside and out) WILL BREAK at some point. Especially if you use it heavily and or often.
-The machine also screams bloody murder if you make a mistake, get a jam, or something stops working. Nothing is more terrifying than the loud beeping and the flashing buttons. Along with this and the plastic body together its hard to test the parts without feeling like it will break at any moment.
-The tension has to be fixed often. It will sew completely okay then start to mess up. [I did however find that re-threading the machine often fixed the issue, and the use of higher quality thread]
-This machine also does not sew through heavy layers. I have seen it sew through Upholstery fabric, PVC/Vinyl with little to no problem but just recently the needles timing was thrown off sewing through several layers of broadcloth, cotton sateen, and bias tape.
