I am very happy with my puchase of this machine! Excellent value, you get SO much for dollar spent!
I have other machines, including a popular pricey brand, but I wanted this one because it has stitches that my other machines don't.
I love the "lightning" stretch stitch and have sewn gymnastics leotards using that and the 3-step zig-zag with excellent results. You can set the needle up-down position, a feature usually on much more expensive machines.
Also like the "hand stitched" stitch and the lovely crosstitch patterns and the many different feet that are included. Two of the quilting stitches are for piecing and are pre-programmed to form a small stitch at 1/4 inch. I plan on finishing a quilt I started (gulp) years ago using this.
This machine does have drop feed. There is a small lever on the back that easily slides to accomplish this.
I might add that the clip-on feet DO NOT fall off at the slightest touch as with another machine I have.
The all purpose foot has a height lock on it for sewing over thick spots, very handy.
This machine comes with hard cover, extra large table (very sturdy), and quilting feet, including a walking foot.
Easy to use and thread, very good, detailed manual.
I don't know how Brother puts out a machine of this quality with so many features for this price. I'm a happy sewer! Absolutely recommend! I don't have a dealer nearby, but I have other Brother machines and have found their online customer service to be excellent.
It has been out for a while now, so get one while you can!
What MartiP does not like about this machine
If you are used to a machine with center needle position, it may take you a short time to get used to left needle position as being normal. (You can change the needle position).
I wish LCD stitch selection panel was lighted, but my up-coming cataract surgery may solve that and that fact that lighting is just O.K.
Harp space is not very large, not sure how large a quilt can be done; haven't tried that yet.
