|What SilverBrumby likes about this machine|
I like everything about my 1130. It was my first real machine, and I remember being shocked (in a good way) about the simple but wonderful concept of the knee lifter, also being able to select the needle up or down position, and the responsive one tap foot pedal (to change the up or down needle, or to do half a stitch). Later I bought feet - oh! the feet on this machine are great - the ruffler (perfect if you have little girls to sew for), the invisible zipper foot, the edge stitch, the walking foot. It does beautiful buttonholes and three step zig zag.
Recently it played up, it did not remember how to do repeat buttonholes, zigzag was erratic, and I was told (by a generalist repairer) that it was not worth fixing. I was so sad to think my 1130's days were over - we have been through a lot together and I am sentimental.....anyway I took the machine for a second opinion to Bernina in Chatswood (Sydney) where I originally bought it and they charged only $120 to clean up and re-calibrate it! They commented that these machines do get a bit stuck but replacing the stepper motor/s is not really the solution as the age of the machine means that things get a bit stiff, that's all :) I am very happy I have it back and I will be servicing this faithful machine every year now for sure.
What SilverBrumby does not like about this machine
It's heavy and every time I did some classes I cursed if I had to park far away. For this reason I bought a machine for classes or as a spare - a lighter Activa 210 which also does a beautiful stitch - but no auto buttonholes and you can't retro-fit the feet that I already have. Glad I had it over the last couple of weeks while my 1130 was being fixed.
