|What Sew Nanny likes about this machine|
There's not a whole lot to write about this machine because it is very basic. The B215 is the only Bernina sewing machine currently manufactured that resembles the discontinued Activa line. Instead of the Activa's red buttons and handle, the B215 has black buttons and handle. I like the black accents. This is a 3/4 size machine and it is portable and lightweight enough to take to classes, which is what I had in mind when I bought it. As mentioned in the "dislike" section, snap-on feet come with this machine. I prefer the solid, one-piece Bernina feet and have quite a few of them for my 630E. So, I'll just use them instead. I do like that an extension table comes with the B215. I really didn't expect the extension table to be included and was pleasantly surprised. I've owned a couple of Activas and 3 Series machines. The B215 has the same solid, stable feel and performance as these other more expensive machines. The machine features an LCD screen and an upgraded LED light. There are 10 practical stitches and 1 manual buttonhole. There are no decorative stitches. This isn't a problem for me, since my 630E and 830LE boast oodles of decorative stitches. The B215 features Bernina's famous CB hook system which produces an exceptional straight stitch. The feed dog width is 5.5 mm. This machine is computerized and has the ability to save altered stitches to its memory like other more expensive Bernina machines. Other great features include needle up/down, 9 needle positions and semi-automatic needle threader. Accessories include 5 presser feet soles, a dust cover and accessory bag. I was in the market for a lightweight, portable machine that I could mainly take to classes for piecing. For me the B215 fits the bill and also didn't cost an arm and a leg.
As a side note, this Bernina model among others, can be skinned. Here's a photo of my skinned B215.
What Sew Nanny does not like about this machine
Like Bernina's Activa line and 3 Series, there is no adjustable presser foot pressure. The feet are snap-on which I don't care for. One-piece feet can also be used with this machine, so I'll just use the feet I already own.
