An all steel machine made in Japan and distributed by Necchi-Alco. Underneath it says J 38, I don't know which company that is.
It is cream colored metal and all of the dials are on the front. It has 18 stitches, all of which can be used with twin needles. There is a reset lever when you want to switch from 1 decorative stitch to another. There are 5 stitch widths for the zigzag stitch as well as for the decorative stitches. You have to play with the width and length for the decorative stitches to get one that looks great.
The light is very bright and illuminates the sewing area to the left of the needle very well. There is a separate plug for the light and the machine.
there is a pair of buttons on the front to drop down the feed dogs for darning and 1 for regular sewing. It uses standard bobbins and the bobbin winder is pretty standard too, you loosen the wheel so that the bobbin will wind without the machine sewing.
It has a plastic presser foot which is helpful when doing precise work. The buttonhole is 3 step and the stitch width dial has each step on the dial. They were not the world's greatest buttonholes.
It is a dream to sew with. I did all of the stitches on cotton fabric, and did the straight and zigzag on 8 layers of heavy denim. It went through the denim with no problem. I made a patchwork quilt using old denim jeans and had no problems.
I have not been able to find a manual anywhere but even without the manual was able to get considerable use out of the machine.
It is really a heavy duty machine. The motor is enclosed. The motor has 1 horsepower and it did not hesitate going through the heavy denim.
It is definitely a muscle builder.
It is on when you plug it in, you have to unplug it when you are finished sewing if you have dogs, cats or small children hanging around.
