Tell us about your first impression when you used this machine.
I had it out of the box, threaded and doing stitches within 5 minutes. Since I have no prior sewing experience, it was a great relief not to have to deal with a complicated machine.
Was the machine manual sufficient?
Great manual. Very easy to understand. Comes in English and in Spanish.
Did you buy any accessories? Do you use them?
It comes with extra feet: 1 zipper, 2 buttonhole (1 of them sliding). The seller threw in a ditch quilting foot. It also came with needles, bobbins, a screwdriver, lint brush and seam ripper. I purchased an ultra glide foot to sew oilcloth and vinyl coated material. It worked well.
Is this your primary machine?
Yes. It's the only machine I've owned.
Did you take any classes specifically for this machine?
No. Don't really need a class on how to use the machine. The manual is very clear.
Was this a gift/pre-owned/garage sale etc?
How often do you use it?
Would you recommend this machine to others?
Yes. The machine is simple to use, has a solid reputation, is reasonably priced and capable of completing a variety of sewing projects. It's a sturdy mechanical machine with just the right amount of features for beginning to intermediate level sewers or for anyone doing basic, all-around sewing. It weighs about 16 pounds and has a built-in handle for portability.
I've mainly been concentrating on garment construction and have been able to sew through several layers of fabric with no problems. So far I have made a warm, sweatshirt fleece jacket, denim vest and wrap around skirt, linen/rayon pants and tops, an oilcloth machine cover with tablecloth, and canvas totes. The 4-step buttonhole has been easy to use. Just practice first on a scrap of the material you will be using.
Have you had any trouble with this machine? Please elaborate.
None. Really enjoying the machine. It's about average for noise-level.
One possible con is that it does not come with a cover (but you can easily make one! )
Also, you have to remove the extension table to get to the switch that lowers the feed dogs. If you do a lot of quilting that May be viewed as inconvenient.
Do you do regular maintenance on this machine? How?
Just clean it every once and awhile according to the manual instructions.
