Update on Our Chat with Traci Bautista of treiC DesignsBy DianeSev on 1/20/11 12:33 PM

We Chatted With Tracy Bautista of treiC Designs!

Did you catch our chat with Traci Bautista the other night?

We talked with Traci about "Collage and Mixed Media Design with Fabric".

Traci is the talented artist, designer and author behind treiC Designs, where she showcases her mixed-media approach to art. She is the author of the best-selling Collage Unleashed and the upcoming Doodles Unleashed. Her artwork has been featured in more than 40 craft publications, and she has been a regular guest artist on HGTV & DIY Networks' Craft Lab. She also has licensed artwork for an adhesive product line, Collage Pauge, and {kolLAJ} papercrafts.

With a degree in Graphic Design and Marketing, Traci transitioned from an 8-year stint in Silicon Valley to celebrating her 10th year as an independent artist/designer/teacher.

How does Traci go about her work? She finds that there are many things that inspire her, so she takes a lot of photos every day. She examines magazine layouts and does research online on the work of fashion illustrators and designers. She watches for the latest fashion and home trends for color inspiration. And she teaches.

During the chat, Traci discussed how collage can be incorporated into fabric design and then finally into garments.

She uses dyes, fabric paints, sprays and acrylics as well as markers and pens, pencils, and watercolors to create her designs. If she's creating something wearable, she makes sure to use fabric/textile paints and marker.

Some people are intimidated by doing collages, but she advises people to let go and paint freely. She enjoys doodling to create her drawings and is inspired by the fashion illustrator Erte. She also uses her photographs for inspiration.

Members were inspired by Traci's chat and wanted to rush right out and paint fabric!
