We're Chatting with fabric designer Pat Bravo of Art Gallery Fabrics, on "Designing Fabrics", on Wednesday, June 22nd, at 1 PM Eastern Time (10 AM Pacific, 11 AM Mountain, Noon Central). GMT: 17:00:00. Sydney, Australia: Thursday, June 22, 2011 at 3 AM!*
Join us on Wednesday, June 22 at 1 PM EST for a chat with Pat Bravo of Art Gallery Fabrics on "Designing Fabrics".
At the age of nine, Argentinian designer Pat Bravo sat down for the first time at her mom’s sewing machine. When she was 13, she joined a sewing school in her native Buenos Aires, where she learned everything about fabrics, dressmaking and patterns. When it was time for college, she decided to study law, but after 3 years, she dropped out and began taking painting classes.
She began making beautiful art quilts inspired by artists like Kandinsky and Klee. Because she had a hard time finding color variations in batiks, she decided to paint her own fabrics.
Today she is the designer and creative director of her own fabric design company, Art Gallery Fabrics.
Her contemporary fabrics set her work apart from that of other designers, not only for their quality (they are made of 100% premium cotton), but also for their classic sophistication and modern freshness that appeal to traditional and young sewers all over the world.
But it doesn't stop there. Pat also designs sewing patterns, quilting patterns and Grab n'Sew Kits, which include everything that's needed (including zippers, buttons, magnetic snaps, and even color coordinated thread!) to make handbag, accessory and baby item projects.
About her work, Pat says:
I am convinced that everybody is born “to do something” in life. It is possible that...in the path of life...you will have some twists and turns at some moments; but at the end, you will always find your purpose, your destiny, your place.
This is what I was born to do, and I am sure that this is what I will do for the rest of my life. Moreover, I am blessed with the privilege of working at something that excites me.
But I feel happier for being able to share my passion for sewing and fabrics with all of you, because I think that the excitement that women have on creating their own projects becomes a passion they translate to their family and friends.
This is a passion we all want to pass to our children as a legacy...the passion for "handmade with fabrics”.
