Are the two shopping options on Saturday going to the same stores? or will they be different?

I would be happy to "adopt" you Dana. I have a degree in Fashion Design and have sewn for years. Am happy to willingly share what I have learned.

Dana Cetz, Absolutely! That's what this event is all about. Great question.
sewrose said... (2/20/14 6:34 PM) Reply
Dana Cetz, I'm interested.

More than anything I need to go with experienced sewers to the fabric store so I can learn from them about the "hand" of different fabrics and to know if I can use the fabric for pants. I am hoping for an experienced sewer to adopt me.

Is anyone going to the Meet and Greet after the Project Runway fashion show?
sewrose said... (2/19/14 2:43 PM) Reply
Cougars10, yes people are going to the shows on Thursday and Friday. We'll help people find each other so they can attend together.

Is anyone going to either of the fashion shows on Thursday and/or Friday?
sewrose said... (2/16/14 10:30 AM) Reply
@Cougars10, If your schedule allows you to come in on Thursday, that's great. You'll get to the Friday morning programming without rushing.

This will be my first PR Weekend. Are most people coming in on Thursday?

Does anyone want to split prices for a double room at the Hyatt?

Wow, I got so extremely excited about going I forgot I was suppose to be afraid of flying!!

I got my vacation days approved and I've booked my room. Anyone have suggestions regarding appropriate attire for the fashion shows? This is my first PR Weekend and I don't want to show up in the wrong outfit :)

@soulsurfersteph, as Leslie mentioned, PR Weekend is first and foremost an opportunity to meet our sewing sisters IRL. Sewing's so often a solitary activity, it's great to make friends who also love it. Why not join Sewing With Style on, an Austin group that meets 2-3 monthly to talk sewing? Hope to see you there sometime.

I'm really looking forward to my first Pattern Review Weekend! I was able to attend the 10th anniversary party in Austin and had a blast. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Pattern Review Weekend is a very different kind of event than other sewing conferences, in that usually we don't even schedule classes! Like Jacqui says, this really is more about getting together with our sewing sisters, fabric shopping, having a big group dinner, and later sharing our shopping finds. This year, though, we have a wealth of local talent to share and not as much fabric shopping as NYC or LA, so for the first time ever we've added a few optional classes and are having multiple speakers. To add to the fun, we've also scheduled our weekend to coincide with Austin Fashion Week to give sewers who might not get a chance to attend fashion weeks in NYC or Paris the opportunity to taste that experience Austin Style. Due to the nature of the event, you have to be registered for the whole weekend and have an official badge in order to be able to attend any of the events. Hope you'll attend, Steph. It's always incredibly fun!

@soulsurfersteph - If you're interested in sewing classes, you should look into your local American Sewing Guild. PRW's vary year to year in their events based on what's available in the area. I love to attend as personal mini vacations where I get to meet up with a hundred fellow sewists who share the same passion. I love the varying content that changes year to year and of course, the opportunity to visit new fabric stores. ;)

I live in Austin and was excited to see the email announcement about this event...but frankly, I am disappointed looking at the schedule. I am interested in sewing technique classes...not fashion runway events. And organizing is useful but I can get that info elsewhere. Is it possible to sign up just for the Saturday classes and not the rest of the weekend? Also, it would be nice to have more classes available. Thank you!
Deepika said... (2/12/14 3:41 PM) Reply
Diane, you are all set. The Machine maintenance class is only in the morning.
Diane E said... (2/12/14 11:18 AM) Reply
Thanks, Deepika. I enrolled for both classes yesterday, and I just checked under "my account" and it looks like I've been put in the morning bra class. Could you move me to the afternoon bra class so that I can attend both (assuming I'm reading the schedule right and the maintenance class is only in the morning). Thanks!
Deepika said... (2/12/14 11:09 AM) Reply
DianeE, both the classes will cover the same materials. I can see how it would be confusing though so I've added the option of registering either for the morning or afternoon session. I will post a full class outline soon.

Thanks, Jacqui, you took the words out of my mouth. On the one hand, husbands generally don't attend PR Weekend with their wives (unlike the ASG national conference, for example). Sometimes, I think it's nice to be able to travel solo and explore new friendships and renew older ones. On the other, sometimes the household travel budget is tight and trips like these have to be squeezed into one outing that allows one person to indulge herself and serves as a couples' getaway.

I am really excited about this! I am in Houston, so this is a manageable drive. Now, to figure out childcare...

I just made reservations for 3 nights at the Hyatt and my husband said he wouldn't mind going to the to evening events with me, he is more of a fashionista than I am so I will register us both and he can do his own thing during the day when we have seminars
Diane E said... (2/11/14 3:09 PM) Reply
Hi! This looks great! If I want to attend both Saturday classes, will I automatically be enrolled in the afternoon bra class?
Deepika said... (2/11/14 11:11 AM) Reply
@Mmmberry, I just sent you an email.
Jacqui315 said... (2/11/14 10:43 AM) Reply
Mmmberry, usually we mention the Patternreview rate which applies starting Thursday night. It is very reasonable - I think 167 for a room with two queens.
Jacqui315 said... (2/11/14 10:41 AM) Reply
MaggieSc, husbands generally do not attend. I think I've seen one a year and they're left to their own schedule. Registraion cannot be broken down further save for the extra options mentioned, so if husbands only wanted to attend dinner, they would still have to pay the entire registration. But many attendees have made vacations out of these trips by arriving early or staying later in which case it would be fun to bring your husband. See you in Austin!
MaggieSc said... (2/11/14 9:37 AM) Reply
Is anyone else bringing their husbands? I was planning on it and hoped he could join in social events and then go on his way during the day time events
