|My entry is a two-piece combination. It is inspired in part by Dior and in part by Austrian dirndl dress. The underdress is made of creme dupion silk and edged with white piping that picks up the painted accents in the overdress. It is a strapless dress made from Burda 03-2010-#107 in a size 44.
The overdress is cut low under the bust to let the underdress show through. It features an asymetrical bubble skirt design. The overdress was a combination of two patterns. The bodice is McCalls 3869, a wedding dress pattern, and the skirt was drafted using Simplicity 9466 as a base. Both were size 18.
Both bodices are underlined. The underlining is interfaced and also strengthened with sew-in boning at the seams. The skirt of the overdress is underlined with soft netting to give it some more body.
I'm really happy with my dress since I have been wanting to make it for quite some time and just never got around to it. This contest makes everyone a winner, because it produces some of the finest garments that we all get to keep!
