nancy2001 (Nancy Robertson ) Category: cotton

This cotton motorcycle jacket combines high fashion styling with industrial chic and was inspired by a $3,500 jacket designed in 2010 by Akris, the Swiss fashion house. The self drafted pattern includes: collar and overlaping lapels with no gorge line and a sew-in jumbo snap, shoulder princess seams, long set –in sleeves, mitered sleeve vents with jumbo sew-in snap detail, zipper front, and a back half belt with zipper, snap and Ultraleather trim. The semi-fitted silhouette is slightly nipped in at the waist, and oversized handmade shoulder pads, chest shields and sleeve headers build up the upper chest and shoulders.

Many of the fabrics and supplies were bought on sale, and the total cost was $35, one percent of the price of the inspiration piece. The fabric is medium-heavy weight, 100% cotton denim from Hancock’s, and the trim is off black genuine Ultraleather in a pebble grain texture. The jacket is interfaced with fusible weft interfacing and fully lined with black Bemberg rayon. A heavy weight aluminum zipper from Coats & Clark and jumbo Dritz sew-in snaps glint of provide a touch of high tech whimsy.
