Every year during our equivalent to homecoming week (we don't have a football team), my college has the junior class create and run a play. It was my class's turn this year. I was asked to make an unicorn costume for a skit because I am one of the only people in my class that can sew.
I could not find an unicorn pattern in any catalog (at least, not one that we could obtain quickly enough for production). I decided to alter Simplicity 2853's cat view because with a few changes (adding a mane, horse tail, horn) would make it perfect.
This costume was not mind numbingly difficult, but time consuming and stressful to sew in the short amount of time I was given. I accidentally installed the zipper on the wrong side and it was a pain to try and fix. The horn also gave me trouble because it was so bulky and broke apart my needle right when I was finished with the costume. And the boas I used for the mane and tail (because that was what I was provided)? I had to sweep the floor when I was done with them. Needless to say, this is easily the hardest thing I have sewn to this date. But everything fit and even with the complications the costume was a hit at junior production. |
