I made this jacket as a copy of a jacket I saw Karla from Karla's Closet wearing. It had such a unique look to it, I had to try it. The jacket sports princess seams, a peter pan collar, 7 buttons and most importantly - godets!
Drafting the pattern wasn't too difficult, I based my jacket pattern on my own bodice pattern, I first converted it to a jacket pattern and then created the princes seams. Next, I drafted the godets (I changed their size and shape quite a few times before I found what I liked) and drafted the peter pan collar.
Sewing the jacket was definitely a challenge, this was a first for me in many aspects, making a muslin, underlining, making proper bound buttonholes, inserting godets, lining a garment with godets and so on.
I'm pretty happy with the outcome, I think it turned out to be similar to the original inspiration! I'm proud of all the fine details I thought of and that I embellished the collar and the godets like the original jacket. I really tried to think everything through, which isn't something I always do when I sew. I learned a lot! |
