I started sewing early, like many of you, at my grandmother's knee. I took the expected and lamented home ec sewing class and was frustrated with the clinical atmosphere. My real sewing education was earned in my college minor, theatre. I learned to sew fast in the theatre workroom. I also learned to differentiate between the parts of a garment that are necessary for overall stability and the parts of a garment that are merely "window dressing". A 16 year stint as a custom dressmaker taught me to streamline my technique further. Presently, I teach locally and online, incorporating many of the speed and accuracy techniques developed for my personal and professional sewing. In December, Mike and I will celebrate our 29th anniversary; I still think he has the prettiest blue eyes I've ever seen:) We have four children, ranging in age from 25 to 12, a brand-new grandson, and a yellow lab named Casey who loves cashmere. | |
