What is this notion used for? These plastic, spring loaded clips replace pins to hold layers of fabric securely without slippage or leaving marks. They will open 1/2 inch wide. The bottom piece is flat and has seam allowance markings of 3/8, 1/4, and 3/16 inches. Tip to pivot point measures 1/2 inch. I have used these instead of pins to hold silk, satin, and lacy knit layers together. They are easy to remove as you sew and can't be overlooked and sewn over as a pin can. I think they would be just as useful for heavier, hard to pin fabrics, like fleece and quilting layers.
There is a jumbo size as well but I have no further information about those.
Did you get your money's worth after the purchase? Absolutely! My sewing room cat slipped a package of 10 into my stocking at Christmas. Amazon sells a package of 10 for $6.19, 50 for $13.60. Nancy's Notions has them at a competitive price as well. For my sewing, 10 is plenty (until said cat starts batting them under the furniture, anyway).
Is this notion easily available? Online it is. Don't know if the bricks and mortar places stock them.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes! Once you have some you'll wonder how you managed without them.

Thanks. I went to a seminar and a handful of these were in our registration bag. I was so confused- they were not in original packaging and reminded me of clothespins to hang delicates over the tub. Now I know!

I have the pack of 30, love the durable reclosable container those come with. Found them at a local brick and mortar for *significantly* more than the Amazon price, but oh well. I find them really useful for holding bindings on while I hand sew while watching TV, no more worrying about an errant straight pin where the kiddos may find it!

I bought some about a week ago and absolutely love them. I use them to hold my binding in place on my quilts. No more stuck fingers from my straight pins. I am eagerly awaiting the jumbo size.

Just curious about if they hang up your project on the edge of machine....I am imaging if your free arm is open wont these clips sort of snag or drag on the edge of bed? Also have thouhts maybe clothespins would work as well. But maybe I need to try these out. I just prefer less in the plastics.

@cherylz clothes pin would be much larger as for hangup on free arm no different than with straight pin

The bottom of this wonderful clip is flat and the smooth plastic reduces friction. I could not believe how great this clip worked on holding binding in place. So many gadgets are really a waste of money, and plastic, too, but this product is worth buying. Thanks for the review Homewerk!
