What is this notion used for? The Snap Setter Tool is a hard plastic purple 3-piece nested item...base, middle, and top...used to attach snaps to your garments/projects. It is priced at $9.00. The size of the snaps you want to use determines the size of the tool you buy. I purchased the size 16 tool which will allow me to install 4 sizes of snaps, the largest being size 24 (approx. 5/8").
You also might need to purchase different size bases...I had to get the size 24 base priced at $3.25. The base is where the cap of your snap sets.
I also bought the Perfect Hammer at $15.00. I had a sewing room hammer but it kept disappearing on me. This hammer is perfect for sewing applications and it is actually 5 tools in one as different size screwdrivers are nested in its handle.
I have a nice sewing cabinet and I like to protect the surface somewhat so I got the Perfect Snap Attaching Surface. It's a small 'cutting board' made of Corian with 4 non-slip rubber feet on the bottom. It was $10.00. It actually is perfect. :)

Did you get your money's worth after the purchase? Oh yes, I believe I have. This set makes it almost impossible to mess up snap setting. The indent on the bases and tops, and the size of the holes in the middle section hold the snaps right where they need to stay while you hammer. And if you do happen to mess it up one of the little screwdrivers is all you need to pry off the snap for a redo.
I have used a hammer and wooden spool in the past to set snaps and while it usually got the job done, it was always hit or miss with regard to how evenly the snap got set. This tool set takes the worry out of it and I think I will be using a lot more snaps.

Is this notion easily available? Yes...I purchased on their website. This woman-owned/invented company is located in Troy, MI so I like that I am supporting an in-state business
Delivery was super speedy and shipping was reasonable at $7.95 for my order.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I definitely recommend this tool.
They carry many colors of snap caps including pearl and metal finished, and they also have tack buttons for jeans. I am pretty sure you could find any color you need.
I also received a box of 'practice snaps' which was really nice.
The instructions included are super clear. You will be setting snaps within minutes.

My husband will only wear Western Style shirts with the pearlized snaps. The snaps do occasiaonally come out so this tool will be perfect to use for fixing his shirts. Thanks for the excellent review.

I LOVE this product! Have used it for about 5 yrs now on snaps and jeans buttons. Early on DH showed me a small vise he has in his shop. I like it better for some applications instead of the hammer but either works. Nice review!

I love my Snap Setter. It completely changed my attitude about snaps. I used to dread putting on snaps, but I discovered this baby at a local shop, and have no fear of snaps now.

I love this product also. I use snaps a lot more with this tool. I will use snaps instead of velcro on some applications. It's great!
